I am using these first few weeks to give the students a taste of the different Science concepts we will explore this year. We have worked with living things and what they need (garden), how things move (robots), and this week we will explore the Sun’s energy and observe changes in matter (Solar Cookers). We could use some materials for Solar Cookers if you can have them to school by Wednesday so I can make sure we have everything we need. The weather is supposed to be ideal for this lesson Friday. 11 Large Pizza Boxes (clean) Graham Crackers Hershey Bars (12) Marshmallows Thank you for continuing to send in snacks! Don’t forget to read every night for 20 minutes. We are learning this week that there are many ways to read. We can Read the Words, Read the Pictures, or Retell a Familiar Story. Reading time at home can include any of these plus reading with a grown up or listening to a grown up read out loud. Listening to adults read out loud is one of the single most powerful ways to help your child develop as a reader and expand his/her vocabulary. For this reason, I place the most emphasis on this quality time. Bedtime stories count! Just Right Bags should contain a Just Right Book based on Kindergarten exit level, a Sight Word Board, and a Baggie of Spelling and HFW cards. We have to be able to read all of the cards.
