Schererville Farmers Market 2016 Vendor Application Market Information: The Schererville Farmers Market Expansion/Re-brand The Schererville Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce the re - brand/expansion and launch of the Schererville Farmers Market. The re-brand includes changing the focus of the brand from Redar Park to the focus of the town of Schererville, with an emphasis on “fresh from the region.” The town has initiated a full re-brand of the farmer's market as part of the Schererville 150th birthday celebration launch. The Market The Schererville 2016 Farmers Market will begin on June 2nd. The Schererville Farmers market will be open from 3 PM until 8 PM on Thursday's and once a month on a Sunday (for our #SundayFunDay), from 11 AM until 5 PM. Attendees will be able to experience summer’s harvest with fresh produce, artisan baked goods, specialty foods, food trucks, locally farmed honey, craft beers from local breweries, crafts, and much more. The Schererville Parks and Recreation Department is eager to implement new plans for the market through increasing the number of vendors and providing a wider variety of goods. Entertainment and Live Music will also be a major part of the market and will begin at 6 PM in the beer and wine Garden. Additionally, entertainment and live music will be provided for attendees beginning at 2 PM on our #SundayFunDay. Farmers and vendors will be present at both markets. All vendors must provide one of the following: Federal tax identification number, state tax identification or a social security number. 2. Produce vendors must have a posted sign with name of farm and origin of produce, and prices must be posted. 3. If you plan to give samples of your products (produce, food, etc.) to customers then you must obtain a health permit from the Lake County Health Department. 4. Vendors are asked to begin setting up no earlier than 12 pm on Thursday’s and 8 am on Sunday’s. 5. Vendors must arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to market opening. 6. Vendors must participate for the full duration of the market. Those who fail to participate for the full duration of the show will be banned for one-year from future shows or events with the Schererville Park Department. Some exceptions may be made, but must have prior approval from Park Department. 7. Must be courteous towards customers, other vendors and market management staff. 8. Vendors must keep their area clean during market sales and leave the surrounding area clean. 9. Vendors may not follow, harass, or intimidate, visitors or staff. 10. Except for approved entertainment use, no amplification is allowed. 11. Vendors registering day of event must show proof that their space has been paid for before they will be allowed to set up. 12. Vendor placement will be at the discretion of the Schererville Park Department. 13. Direct Sales businesses will be limited to one vendor per company (based on first come, first served). Schererville Parks and Recreation reserves the right to limit the number of vendors selling similar products. Not all applications may be accepted. CANCELLATION POLICY 1. Vendors must notify Parks Department if they will not be able to attend or if going to be late by 12 pm on Thursday’s and 8 am on Sunday’s or no make-up day will be allowed. Vendors who do not sign up for the full season must have their make-up days approved by the Market Coordinator. Only two (2) emergency cancellations will be allowed per season. Other make-up days will be at the discretion of the Schererville Park Department. 2. The decision to cancel the market is at the discretion of the Schererville Parks Department. Vendors that register for 1 (must have minimum 3 days), 5, or 9 weeks will be allowed to choose a make-up day if the market is cancelled. No make-up days or refunds will be issued to full season vendors for cancelled market days. 3. It is the authority of the Schererville Parks Department to close a market early or open a market late. 4. No make-up days or refunds will be carried over to the following year. INCLEMENT WEATHER The market has a general policy of staying open in inclement weather unless the Park Department determines that the situation poses a threat to vendors and customers. It is the authority of the Schererville Park Department to close a market early or open a market late due to severe or inclement weather. If a market is cancelled due to severe weather, vendors will be notified in a timely way by email and telephone. 1. High Winds. All vendors are required to weigh down their canopies with adequate weight to keep it on the ground. Canopies must be weighted on all four corners. A fine may be added for any canopy that is lifted off the ground. The Park Department may require canopies to be taken down that are at risk for taking flight either due to inadequate weights or high winds. Safety evacuation point is the Comfort Station located on Redar Park property. 2. Lightning Policy. In the case of lightning, an immediate response is recommended: All vendors with electrical equipment should unplug it at the first sign of lightning and step away from the appliance. Those with vehicles should get into them and avoid touching the metal frame of the vehicle. Try to get a safe distance from light posts or trees. Safety evacuation point is the Comfort Station located on Redar Park property. MARKET CANOPIES/TENTS/UMBRELLAS All canopies, umbrellas, and other forms of stall cover must be sufficiently and safely secured to the ground, from the moment the canopy is erected at the start of the market day until the moment immediately before it is taken down at the end of the market. If tents are inadequately secured, market management will ask the vendor to take it down and sell without it. Canopy weights should not cause a tripping hazard, should be tethered with lines that are clearly visible, have soft edges to avoid causing scrapes and cuts, should be securely attached to the canopy, and should be on the ground and not above people’s heads. MAINTENANCE & APPEARANCE Tables and other fixtures should be in good condition. All produce must be kept off the ground. Market products should be of a high quality. Products that do not meet this quality criterion may be removed at the Schererville Park Department discretion. All vendors are responsible for bringing all supplies needed for their space; this includes but is not limited to, hoses, canopy weights, or extension cords. Vendors who fail to comply with this requirement are subject to suspension or termination from the market with no refund. FOOD VENDORS 1. Food vendors must provide a current health permit for Lake County, Indiana. All food vendors must display a copy of their health permit in their booth, a 10lb. ABC fire extinguisher, fire proof tent, no open flame under tent, and must abide by all Lake County Health Department rules. A representative from the Schererville Park Department will do an inspection prior to the start of each market. Vendors who fail to comply with these requirements will be subject to suspension or termination from the market with no refund. 3. Upon approval, food vendors must provide a certificate of insurance naming the Town of Schererville as certificate holder and additionally insure the Schererville Parks and Recreation Board of Directors & its duly authorized agents and employees. Applications will NOT be processed and space will not be guaranteed until this is on file.
