SetinCook’sWomen’sGym,WaistWatchersTheMusical!takesalightheartedlookatfour
women‘ofacertainage’dealingwithassortedbodyimageissues;itcoverstopicssuchas
dieting,exercise,plasticsurgery,andsexovertheageofforty–areasofconcerntowomen,
andtomen‐ofallages.
“WhenIfirstwroteWaistWatchersTheMusical!Iwaslookingtocreateafunshowthat
peopleofallages,backgrounds,andlifestylescouldenjoy,”theshow’screatorAlan
Jacobsonexplainedrecently.”
“Icouldn'tthinkofanythingmoreuniversalandtopicalthanfood.Itrulydon'tknow
anyonewhodoesn'teatit!Andpeoplesuretalkaboutandobsessoverit.Whathasgiven
methegreatestsatisfactionisseeinghowpeoplerespondtotheshow,”hesays,“Notonly

Jacobsoncontinues.“Ihadproduceditonmyownforafewyearsquitesuccessfully,but
feltthattotakeittothenextlevelIneededtoturnovertheproducingresponsibilitiesto
otherproducers…producerswhosharedmypassionfortheshow,whosharemyvisionand
thedirectionIhavealwaysseenitgoingin,andwhohavetheresourcesandconnectionsto
thrustitfurtherintothenationalandinternationalarena.
“DanaMatthowandPhilRoywereexactlytherightproducers,”heexplains.“Wejust
finisheda40‐weeknationaltouroftheshow,andthoughverysuccessful,westillenvision
greaterthings.Togetherwithourdirector,MattSilva,andourcomposerVinceDiMura’s
score,wehaveaddednewchoreographyandstaging,thatwefeelwillbeevenmore
inventiveandfun.“
