Dear Parents,
It is wonderful to see that we all had a joyous Chanukah!
Latkes, sufganiot, songs, stories, projects, dancing, prizes, dreidels and more. The spirit of chag
permeated throughout the week. The story of Chanukah kept us enthralled all week.
The children enjoyed hearing about the wonderful heroes of Chanukah; Mattisyahu, Kohen Gadol and
Yehuda- HaMaccabee and about the miracles that Hashem did for us. They learned that the miracle of
Chanukah was not only the victory of the Maccabim over the Greeks also how the a jar of oil which
had enough oil to burn for only one day, burned for eight day and nights.
We also discussed the minhagim (customs) of eating foods cooked in oil such as latkes and sufganiot.
We also sang many songs and pretended to be a dreidel spinning around.
We all had a wonderful time at the Chanukah celebration. The children were so excited to sing and
dance and to spend special time with their parents. Thanks to Morah Lili for the wonderful show and to
all the parents for attending.
This week’s song:
Antiochus the wicked king
He did to the Jews a terrible thing
He made the holy Bais Hamikdash
So unclean and beside he was so mean
That’s not fear the Maccabim said
And with Hashem’s help
They chased Antiochus away
They found a little shemen
That was just right
Hashem made it burn
For eight days and eight nights.
In this week’s Parsha, Vayigash, we learned that after many years of Yackov and his son Yosef being
apart from each other they finally meet, how Serach Bat Asher played her harp and sang to let
Yaakov know that Yosef was alive and well living and ruling in Egypt. For this week’s parsha craft, we
made our own harp.
Wishing you all a good Shabbos.
