Forest View PTA 7.3.7 PTA Membership Meeting Minutes November 10, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. Call to Order: With a quorum present, the meeting was called to order by President Laura Peterson at 7:00 p.m. Meeting Notice: Notice of this PTA Membership Meeting was given via e-mail, written, signage and verbally with proper notice prior to this November meeting. Staff Report: Deb Strong reported the following: • • • • FV was working on a compassion project with highly capable, 5th graders and life skills students. Students working on Heritage Day/Night New program for 5th graders to give morning announcements over intercom 5th graders worked on Veteran’s Day assembly Compassion Project: The President reported Gateway’s Middle School’s GIVE club was collaborating with FV’s Kindness & Compassion Club on compassion projects at FV. Membership Minutes: The President presented the September General Meeting Minutes and provided copies for review. Without any questions, additions or corrections during the Membership Meeting, the September Minutes were approved. Financials and Availability of Funds: The Treasurer reported no claims were made against the insurance since the last Membership Meeting, provided copies of the November financials and reported the books were available for review. Fun Run: The Treasurer reported $28,000 was deposited in November from the Fun Run. She informed members including October deposits, to date $29,634 was deposited and once online, corporate matches, etc. were received total donations may reach $38,000. The President reported the PayPal donations were once again an option this year to accommodate donor requests. 2016-2017 Budget: The Treasurer presented an updated 2016-2017 proposed budget, taking into account only monies received from the Fun Run. The President reported the budget would be reviewed once again after all Fun Run monies were received. After review and discussion, FV PTA member Michelle Ferguson made a MOTION to accept the proposed budget as written. The motion was seconded by Craig Willis and carried with unanimous membership approval of the proposed 2016-2017 budget as presented. Principal’s Report: Principal Darren Larama reported FV was in the process of determining whether to renew the math program IXL, currently funded by FV PTA, or to switch over to a less expensive option, MobyMax. He also reported to FV had a new additional counselor to serve students once a week. Standards of Affiliation: The President reported the FV PTA turned in its signed and completed Standards of Affiliation document to the WSPTA on 10/18/16. She informed members the SOA was a document that ensured the FV PTA “align[ed] with WSPTA’s ethics, policies and principles; maintain good business practices; and comply with applicable federal and state laws.” Nominating Committee: The President reported 3 to 4 people were needed for a Nominating Committee to recognize and recruit the most qualified people available for PTA positions. Forest View PTA 7.3.7 PTA Membership Meeting Minutes November 10, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. Forest View Elementary Library Training Report: The President reported all officers had fulfilled WSPTA’s training requirements with the exception of the PTA & the Law class that she would attend in November. Committee Reports: Fun Run: Fun Run Chair Therese Huri thanked her team for a wonderful Fun Run and reported prizes for the event went out last Friday. Campell’s Labels: Labels Chair Alisha Crawley-Davis reported balls and gift cards were ordered with the Campbell’s points and that the balls were received, but the gift cards had not been received. Volunteers: • • • • • Heritage Night: Co-VP of Volunteers Vanessa Dilley reported Heritage night, “One School with a Rainbow of Cultures” is 11/21 from 6:30-8 p.m. with Jackson High School volunteers. She reported it would include food, student entertainers and activities. Gingerbread Night: Vanessa reported Gingerbread Night is 12/9 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the FV cafeteria. Book Fair: Co-VP of Volunteers Melissa Hinze reported the book fair generated $9500 and thanked volunteers for making it successful. Bingo Night: Melissa reported there was a large turnout for Bingo night and thanked Martha Miller and her team for such a fun night. Humanitarian: Melissa reported 181 pounds of candy was donated to Treats for Troops and that ND Orthodontics would match $1 per pound of candy donated to the FV PTA. Membership: Membership chairs Erin Thomsen and Alisha Crawley-Davis reported there were currently 287 FV PTA members and almost 100% teacher members. Veteran’s Day Assembly: Sally Allison reported she enjoyed the Veteran’s Day assembly and requested that the video be added to the FV PTA website. Advocacy: The President reported in October she attended the 2016 WSPTA Legislative Assembly in Olympia and described the 2016-2018 top five legislative platform issues as well as other issues the WSPTA supports. She informed members she spoke at the Leg. Assembly about sensory disorders. Rachel’s Challenge: Melissa Hinze reported students made about 150 cards for veterans through the Kindness & Compassion Club and would decorate signs for a nursing home next month. Staff Appreciation: Staff Appreciation chair reported pie would be provided to FV staff on 11/22. She reported in an effort to extend appreciation to other schools in Everett, the Staff Appreciation team will decorating Madison Elementary’s lounge and donate pies to its teachers. Announcements/Commencements from the Floor: Everett PTSA Council Meeting: The President reported Everett PTSA council President Angela Steck invited everyone to its council meeting at Gateway Middle School on 11/16 from 7-8:30 p.m. School Board Meetings: The President reported everyone is welcome to attend school board meetings. 2 Forest View PTA 7.3.7 PTA Membership Meeting Minutes November 10, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. Forest View Elementary Library Principal’s Report Continued: The Principal reported: • • • • • • • • • • • • Kindergarten/1st Grade Music Concert: 12/5/16 at 7:00 p.m. in the FV cafeteria Grades 2-5 Music Concert: 12/8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Everett Civic Auditorium Summer Reading Challenge: Will be listed on students’ report cards whether they participated in it during the summer or not Watch D.O.G.S.: Thanked FV PTA for hosting Watch D.O.G.S. event Fun Run: Thanked everyone for their participation Cafeteria Projector: Thanked FV PTA for cafeteria projector Read Aloud: FV has a new read aloud program during lunch to encourage quiet time during reading and so students are able to share stories via a document camera. Conference Week: Tremendous turnout and great feedback from parents School Improvement Plan: FV staff and Principal working on and will discuss in the next Principal’s letter Coffee with Principal: Will be held four times this school year On Time Graduation Meeting: Principal is working with others at the elementary school level to ensure children have the skills to graduate from high school on time. Veteran’s Day Assembly: Thanked Merriah Sample, Deb Strong and Sarah Elliott for putting together songs and multimedia presentations with the students. Staff Report Continued: Deb Strong reported: • • • Morning Announcements: If the PTA tells informs her of upcoming events she will have students announce them. Student Council: New this year to FV. Spirit Day: Held once a month (ex. Seahawks Day and Bring a homemade heart for Kindness Day) Reflections: The President reported today was the last day to turn in art contest entries for the National PTA Reflections program. Box Tops: Alisha Crawley-Davis reported $748.50 worth of box tops were recently received.
