It will showcase the remarkably creative talents of U3A Melbourne City members. It will be held in the CBD at the newly established photography hub “Magnet Galleries” on Level 2, 640 Bourke Street, Melbourne City, 3000. Exhibition Dates Delivery of Framed Pictures by Exhibitors: Open for Public Viewing: Collection of Framed Pictures by Exhibitors: Tuesday 6th Sept 2016 12:00pm – 4:00pm Wednesday, 7th Sept to Sunday, 11th Sept 2016 Wed-Fri: 11:00am – 6:00pm Sat & Sun: 11:00am – 4:00pm Tuesday 13th Sept 2016 11:00am – 1:00pm The Gallery This year we have been very fortunate to secure Galleries 1, 2, 3 & 4 at Magnet Galleries Melbourne (link to webpage), the new, ‘not-for-profit’, social enterprise and living centre of photography at the Southern Cross Station end of Bourke Street, Melbourne. This is an exciting collaboration for the photographers of the U3A Melbourne City. From the Gallery Website: MAGNET is designed to draw together people with an interest in and a passion for photography, to share their knowledge, experience and aspirations and gain new insights and expertise. MAGNET is not-for-profit. At its core is a desire to preserve and celebrate the best of Australian photography and encourage excellence among established and emerging photographers. Magnet Galleries on Google Maps (follow Link) Magnet Galleries Melbourne has kindly made its entire gallery space available to U3A Melbourne City at a generous discount and consequently we will be conducting several fundraising initiatives (a silent auction of photographs donated by willing exhibitors, a raffle for generously donated prizes, gold coin donations, a modest picture hanging fee… etc). We are indebted to Michael and Susanne Silver of Magnet for their generous support. All proceeds of the fund raisers will be directed to the Gallery to reduce the sizable discount we have been offered. We ask that all exhibitors assist us in raising additional funds for this purpose. We would also encourage all exhibitors to have their photographs printed under Michael Silver’s expert guidance, to help support this valuable social enterprise. Every photographer who has printing done at Magnet Galleries will learn a great deal about the digital printing process, because Michael will allow them to sit in on the processing and preparation of the digital print – this will be invaluable learning for those who do not have their own printers. It is hoped that the U3A Melbourne City photographers will benefit from this new association. The Magnet Galleries hosts exhibitions, seminars, fundraisers, book launches and other events to promote photography. Photographs To exhibit photographs you must be a U3A Melbourne City member and may submit a maximum of three (3) photographs. The photograph subject/content is of your choosing. There are no time restrictions on when photographs were taken. 1 Presentation Photographs may be monochrome, black and white or colour. You must suitably frame and mount your exhibit for hanging (including a hanging wire). An advice titled ‘Exhibitor Picture Framing and Hanging Guidelines’ will be forwarded to all registered exhibitors two weeks prior to the hanging day. There are prescribed but simple methods of hanging photographs at the gallery. Simple plain frames are generally the most appropriate. Minimum Image & Maximum Frame Sizes for Exhibition Photographs: Minimum Image* size shall be at least 203mm (20.3cm or 8 inches) on the shortest side. Maximum Frame size shall be 700mm (70.0cm or 27.5 inches) on the longest side. * image size is the actual size of the photographic image on the paper (not the paper size) 2 Registration The most import part of this process is to register your intention to exhibit as soon as possible, by submitting the Registration Form, even if you cannot supply the number of photos, image names or the JPEG image files. The actual image information can follow on as soon as you have finalized them. To submit entries for the exhibition, exhibitors must complete the “New Shoots_2016_Registration Form” attached to this document and email it to [email protected] , or post, or deliver by hand to the U3A Melbourne City Office in Ross House by: Friday 5 August 2016 (if necessary a phone registration is possible – 0421 911 098) The lead time this year has been severely reduced due to uncertainty about the gallery venue and there may not be sufficient time to produce a catalogue with embedded images of your photos. However, if you can include with the emailed registration form a JPEG image of each of your exhibits, we will endeavor to publish them in the exhibition catalogue. Please let us know if you prefer not to have your photos reproduced in the catalogue. When emailing JPEG images please name the files exactly the same as entered on your Registration Form, e.g: Image file names should comprise your U3A Member Number (xxxx), the suffix 1, 2, or 3 (e.g., xxxx - 1, xxxx 2, xxxx - 3) and if possible, a unique title (refer the Registration Form). As space at the gallery is limited we may need to restrict the total number of entries. Please register early. If you register then subsequently cancel, please advise us as soon as possible.
