Private Lessons
Ages: 6 month and older
Great for adults and kids, Private Lessons are offered for 1 student per instructor. Our private
lessons are for those patrons looking for more attention and or have specific swimming goals.
Private lessons are also ideal for adults who want to learn how to swim. Please indicate what
skills you would like your teacher to focus on at time of registration. This will help our instructors
to maximize instruction and learning goals. You can also use the levels below as a guide to help
our instructors.
Adult Private
Ages 18+
Adult Private Lessons are offered for 1 adult student and is taught by one of our adult
instructor. Our private lessons are for those patrons looking for more attention and or have
specific swimming goals. Private lessons are also ideal for adults who want to learn how to
swim. Please indicate what skills you would like your teacher to focus on at time of registration.
This will help our instructors to maximize instruction and learning goals. You can also use the
levels below as a guide to help our instructors.
Group Swim Lessons Levels
Pre-School Age Levels
Ages: 6 months – 5 years
DUCKLINGS Parent-Child Lessons (6 mo. – 3 yrs) (1:1 parent/child)
Instructor aids parent(s) with their child in how to be safe and comfortable in the water. Games
and songs are used as teaching aids in helping young swimmers become calm in the
water. Parents are taught techniques and holds to help acclimate your child to the water. skills
taught: blowing bubbles, floats, kicks, enter/exiting the water.
GUPPIES (ages 3-5)
The Guppies class is for beginning swimmers. This class includes introduction to the basic skills
necessary for swimming. We work on gradual water adaptation, movement in the water,
breath holding and release, submersions of the face, opening eyes underwater, blowing
bubbles, bobbing with bubbles, and air exchange. Swimmers will gain confidence and master
submerging their face in the water.
ADVANCE TO MINNOWS: when they comfortably submerge head and display breath
control with proper air exchange.
MINNOWS (ages 3-5)
The Minnows class is appropriate for swimmers who are comfortable holding their breath under
water and performing relaxed bobs with air exchange. Swimmers will be taught to front float
and recover, front glide and recover, back float and recover, and back glide and recover.
Additionally, students will learn to jump in the water, rollover and float as a safety skill.
ADVANCE TO DOLPHINS: when they can front and back glide for five seconds, then recover
DOLPHINS (ages 3-5)
The Dolphins class is appropriate for swimmers that know how to comfortably hold their
breath and float on their stomach and back independently. Swimmers will be taught
front & back flutter kick & dolphin kick while mastering kicking skills with front and back glides.
Students will also be taught how to utilize arm movement w/o losing balance.
ADVANCE TO SCHOOL AGE LEVEL 4: when they can independently kick 20 feet on their
front & back and demonstrate correct arm movement for crawl stroke & backstroke.
School Age Levels
Ages 6 - 17
Level 1: BUBBLES
The Bubbles class is for somewhat nervous students or very beginners. This class includes
introduction to the basic skills necessary for swimming. We work on gradual water adaptation,
movement in the water, breath holding and release, submersion of the face, opening eyes
underwater, blowing bubbles, bobbing with bubbles, and air exchange. Swimmers will gain
confidence and master submerging their face in the water. Back floats, kicking, And BIG
SMILES are also introduced.
ADVANCE TO LEVEL 2: when they achieve ten relaxed bobs with air exchange
Level 2: FLOATS AND GLIDES
The Floats and Glides class is appropriate for swimmers who are comfortable holding their
breath under the water and doing ten relaxed bobs with air exchange. Swimmers will be taught
to front float and recover, front glide and recover, back float and recover, and back glide and
recover. Additionally, students will learn to jump in the water, rollover and float as a safety skill.
ADVANCE TO LEVEL 3: when they can front and back glide for five seconds, then recover.
Level 3: KICKING
The Kicking class is appropriate for swimmers that know how to comfortably hold their breath
and float on their stomach and back independently. Swimmers will be taught front & back
flutter kick & dolphin kick while mastering kicking skills with front and back glides.
ADVANCE TO LEVEL 4: when they can independently kick 15 feet on their front and on their
back.
Level 4: CRAWL STROKE
The Crawl Stroke class is appropriate for swimmers who have mastered breath control, body
position, and kicking on their front and back on top of the water. Swimmers will be taught to
roll over front to back and back to front, fining and sculling, breathing position for freestyle,
and the crawl arm stroke.
ADVANCE TO LEVEL 5: by performing side-glide kick 20 feet and crawl stroke 20 feet.
Level 5: FREESTYLE
The Freestyle class is appropriate for swimmers who can swim on top of the water, but who stop
when they need to take a breath. Swimmers will be taught back crawl stroke and will master
front crawl stroke with side breathing.
ADVANCE TO LEVEL 6: by swimming crawl stroke with a minimum of four side breaths.
Level 6: BACKSTROKE
The Backstroke class is appropriate for swimmers who have mastered freestyle swimming with
continuous side breathing for a short distance and can swim on their backs. Swimmers will learn
to jump in and tread water, dives, and work on their endurance in freestyle.
ADVANCE TO LEVEL 7: when they can swim freestyle for 25 yards, backstroke for 25 yards,
and jump in and tread water for one minute.
Level 7: BREASTSTROKE AND BUTTERFLY (available as private lesson only)
The Breaststroke & Butterfly class is appropriate for swimmers who have completed Stations 16, can swim freestyle for 75 feet, and backstroke for 30 feet. Swimmers will be introduced to
both breaststroke and butterfly.
ADVANCE TO LEVEL 8:, swimmers will have mastered a 50 yard freestyle & backstroke swim
and an correctly kick breaststroke for 25 yards.
Level 8: TURNS (available as private lesson only)
The Turns class is appropriate for swimmers who have passed Stations 1-7, can swim 50 yards
freestyle, 25 yards backstroke, and can kick breaststroke for 20 feet. Swimmers will be taught
freestyle with bilateral breathing, turns for each stroke, and the individual medley.
ADVANCE TO LEVEL 9: when they perform a 100 yard freestyle swim using
bilateral breathing, swim breaststroke 25 yards, and swim butterfly 30 feet.
Level 9: LIFETIME STROKES (available as private lesson only)
The Lifetime Strokes class is appropriate for swimmers who have passed Stations 1- 8,
can perform a 100 yard freestyle swim using bi-lateral breathing, swim breaststroke for
25 yards, and butterfly for 30 feet. Swimmers will be taught sidestroke and
elementary backstroke.
ADVANCE TO LEVEL 10: when they master a 200 yard freestyle with bi-lateral breathing for
a continuous 50 yards, swim 25 yards butterfly, 50 yards breaststroke, 50 yards elementary
backstroke, and 50 yards sidestroke.
Level 10: INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY (available as private lesson only)
The Individual Medley class is appropriate for swimmers who have passed Stations 19. Swimmers will be taught extended swimming and technique refinement in all major strokes
and turns. SwimMadras GRADUATE: when they can swim 300 yards freestyle, 100 yards
backstroke, and a 100 yard individual medley
