In this unit we will be using the book, Warhorse by Michael Morpurgo
as our inspiration. We will be exploring how the author uses language
to create character and relationships.

Live poetry, performance, sharing poetry and reading aloud.
The children will study poems and then use their knowledge to create
their own poems which will go into a class anthology.

This term we will be learning the basics of HTML and will
be making a basic webpage.

THE PERIODIC TABLE
Children learn how elements in the Periodic Table are listed, looking
at the structure of their atoms.
They can understand and predict how an element might react or
behave in a certain situation.

HEALTH AND THE HUMAN BODY
The pupils will learn how the human respiratory, digestive and
circulatory systems function. The importance of a healthy diet and the
consequences of imbalances in the diet, including obesity, starvation
and deficiency diseases.
LIGHT AND SOUND
The colours and the different frequencies of light, white light and
prisms. Creating models to explain the refraction of light and action of
convex lens in focusing; the human eye and the pinhole cameras.
Understanding sound waves; echoes, reflection and the absorption of
sound.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE BRTITISH?
The children will gain an understanding of what it means to be
British; they will look into the meaning of the term,
‘Multiculturalism’ and discuss how religion, language, food,
sport and fashion are interlinked.
We will study the key beliefs within Sikhism, and consider how
these beliefs and the actions of Sikhs demonstrate their belief in the
Guru Granth Sahib.
Children will know the origin of Sikhism, the 5 Ks, examples of the
teachings and activities of the 10 Gurus, the role of the Gurdwara in
reference to equality and tolerance and the importance of Amritsar
(the Golden Temple).
SPRING 2
We will look at the reasons as to why people come to live in
Britain in the first place and what it means to be naturalised and
become ‘British’.

Food and Nutrition – HEALTHY PIZZAS
We will visit Pizza Express and learn how a restaurant works, how the ingredients are ordered and delivered, how the menus are
decided upon and then best of all, design and make our own pizzas!
Back at school, we will continue to experiment with the making of the perfect pizza dough and what makes the best choice for pizza
toppings.

Art – Everyday inventions
Focusing on inventors throughout the ages and how problem solving is in itself an artistic form. We will look into using recycled
material to repurpose them into new objects and new functions.

WORLD WAR ONE
The class will be looking at the main causes of the Great War and the factors
that contributed to the stalemate.
We will be concentrating on identifying and analysing the many groups
devastated by the war and at the impact of trench warfare.
The unit will be complimented by our visit to the Imperial War Museum in the
Autumn term.
SUMMER 2
THE RUSSIAN REVOLUTION
This module will follow on from what we have learned about the First World
War and we will study the links between the two events.
The children will analyse the historical basis for the revolution and look into the
causes of the revolt due to the effects of social injustice.

Musical Clichés: Pupils will identify music specific
to action film trailers and they will apply this
knowledge to create their own. They will have an
opportunity to learn a set melody, by reading formal
notation as well as create a part to go with it.
