I remember the day so clearly.
To be honest, I was a little nervous. Our sweet little eight
year-old was going to be away from us for a few days and we
just didn’t know how it would affect her. Would she be
homesick? Would she be fast-friends with girls she didn’t
know? Would she be happy and join in the activities or would
she feel too shy and sulk and feel lonely? The look in her eyes
that day told me that she was a little nervous, but excited.
She desperately wanted to fly but needed a little help getting
off the ground. So, we kissed our little butterfly, gave her one last hug, and left her at Comstock.
A few days later, it was time to pick her up. We drove to the camp, again, a little nervous,
but excited to see her again. We knew from the second we saw her that in just a few days,
she had changed! I don’t know how else to say it, but she was no longer an 8 year old,
she was now 8 plus!
She spotted us from afar and came running at us, hair flying, arms a ‘flailing! But it was
her beaming smile, her eyes dancing in delight, her confident stride, that really tipped us off.
She could hardly contain herself as words bubbled out of her mouth so quickly as she sought
to describe each and every last detail about her new friends, the cabin, swimming and of
course, her favorite – camp food! My husband and I felt a shift so seismic, so positive – we
knew right then and there that this was the right thing for Chloe as she blossomed right
before our eyes.
Through the magic of camp, girls of all ages become young women of character. Whether
they go for a few days or weeks – overnight camp provides an environment where girls can
be independent in a safe environment. They learn to get along with all kinds of people,
try new skills, push their own limits at their own pace, all while making memories which
will last a lifetime. Camp is the kind of experience that stays with you your whole life.

Camp Comstock
Comstock Adventure Center is located just north of Ithaca, nestled in New York’s
famous Finger Lakes Region. Girls have ample opportunities to try all the activities
that make going to Girl Scout summer camp so special, like swimming in the dazzling
lake, fishing for that elusive big catch, hiking through the woods to discover hidden
waterfalls, feeling the pride of hitting the target at the archery range, and finding their
inner artist during arts and crafts!
New this year, camp is even more girl led—every girl chooses her own personal
camp adventure!
What is badge work? New this year, each girl who enrolls in a Classic Camp Session
will earn a badge while she’s at camp! For one activity period each day, she’ll work
towards the badge of her choosing!
What is classic camp elective? Girls will get the chance to pick from our offerings
of all sorts of classic camp activities to fill up their schedule, in addition to one activity
period of badge work and one activity period for swimming each day. These could be
activities at our waterfront, arts and crafts, hiking, sports and field games, STEM activities,
performing arts, and so much more!
What is unit choice time? Each girl will be assigned to a cabin village unit or tent
unit, as well as assigned to a dedicated set of counselors, based on her age. This is
where she will sleep, have quiet cabin time/rest hour, and have her cook-out dinner
one night during the week. This is also the group she will share unit choice time with.
Each day, the unit will get an hour of time to do what they would like to do – whether
that’s an extra hour of boating, archery, field games, or arts and crafts, girls work as a
team to decide!
What is Evening All-Camp Activity? Our evening all-camp activities are full of fun,
community and laughter! Every Sunday and Thursday, all-camp is an opening
and closing campfire. The other nights of the week, it might be an all-camp twilight
swim, Capture the Flag, a dance party, a counselor hunt, or a talent show!

Horseback Riding – Get the best of both worlds as you spend your mornings
at camp and your afternoons at the horse ranch! Each morning, you’ll get to
partake in two activity periods of Classic Camp Electives, along with swimming,
before traveling to D&K Ranch, a horseback ranch on the edge of the Finger Lakes
National Forest, to spend your afternoon. You’ll spend 3 hours riding and
learning all about horses each day of camp! Due to a more personal experience,
spaces are limited! Open to Brownies and above Add on price: $150*
* Just want to hop on a horse and ride? Try our Trail Ride Tuesdays! You’ll travel
to D&K Ranch after dinner for an hour long trail ride at dusk! Don’t miss this great

Sailing – Explore Cayuga Lake from your own seat in one of our sunfish sailboats!
Each morning, you’ll spend two activity periods of dedicated time at the waterfront
learning sailing terminology, techniques, and rigging from our boating coordinator!
Once you’ve mastered the basics, you’ll put it all into action out on the water! When
you’re not in your sailing activity periods, you’ll get the chance to go swimming and
sample two other Classic Camp Electives.

Carpentry Camp - Campers will spend three days at Hammerstone Carpentry School
for Women, where they will learn how to read plans, cut wood, and build beautiful
planter boxes to enhance the property at Comstock. Campers will be able to enjoy
camp activities when they return to camp after a fun day of woodworking. Their finished
product will be planted with gorgeous flowers for everyone at camp to enjoy!

Banana Boating – End your camp week with an exciting ride on the banana boat on

Camp Trefoil
Trefoil Adventure Camp is located in Harrisville, NY on the outskirts of the gorgeous
Adirondack Park. This property is the hub for all high adventure trips and travel, while also
offering activities for girls of all levels, featuring swimming in our private lake, boating, fishing
and the chance to climb “The Iceberg” (our own floating rock wall). Girls have the opportunity
to participate in traditional activities like archery, arts and crafts, and field games, including
GaGa Ball and Frisbee Golf. While at camp the girls can also explore their wild side on the
property’s many hiking trails, develop their outdoor cooking skills, and learn how to be a
dauntless outdoorswoman! Finally, every girl who attends camp can challenge herself to
become more courageous and confident on our ropes and challenge course, featuring both
low and high elements (including a zip-line!). On Friday Funday, the closing day of camp each
week, families are welcome to join us for a campfire and cookout so you can meet your
camper’s new friends and hear all their amazing and intrepid stories from the week!
What is open programming? Girls will get the chance to pick from our offerings of all
sorts of classic camp activities to fill up their schedule. These could be activities at our
waterfront, arts and crafts, hiking, ropes course, archery, outdoor living skills, and so
much more!
What is unit choice time? Each girl will be assigned to an A-frame unit, as well as
assigned to a dedicated set of counselors, based on her age. This is where she will sleep,
have quiet cabin time/rest hour, and have her cook-out dinner one night during the week.
This is also the group she will share unit choice time with. Each day, the unit will work as a
team to decide what they would like to do – whether it’s boating, arts and crafts, GaGa Ball,
or Frisbee golf, the sky’s the limit!
What are kapers? Kapers are a Girl Scout tradition, and are a way for girls to take
ownership and pride in Trefoil Adventure Center during their time at resident camp.
This includes helping to ensure their cabins, tents and bathrooms in their unit are clean
and helping set up and clean up from meals (“hoppers and beavers”).
Friday Family Funday!
Families are invited to attend our closing campfire ceremony at the end of camp on Friday
at 3:30. Each unit will perform a song or skit showcasing what they did at camp, and the
counselors will highlight each camper. After singing favorite camp songs, the Camp Director
will share an overview of the week and then invite the group to the field for a cookout.
While enjoying dinner you will get to hear all about your camper’s week as she is welcome
to take you on a tour of her favorite parts of camp.

Camp Experiences
Mini Camp (Brownies Week 2) - Mini camps are a great introduction to camp for
those who have never been or may be nervous about being at camp for a full week!

Classic Camp (Brownies Weeks 1 and 3-5; Juniors Weeks 1-2 and 4-5; Cadette
Week 3) $350 Campers will spend their days enjoying all that camp has to offer.
The mornings will be spent doing activities that the girls choose as a unit, whether it’s a
Polar Bear Swim at 7 am or going on a nature hike along our many trails. Activities may
include swimming, boating, climbing the ‘Iceberg,’ fishing, high and low ropes course,
archery, crafts, games, and many more! In the afternoons, girls will participate in Open
Programming, where they get to pick their own activities. Girls will also develop their
outdoor skills as they learn to cook over a fire and camp out with all of their new friends.
Throughout the course of the week the campers will earn the following badges: Brownie:
Outdoor Adventurer; Junior: Camper; and Cadette: Trailblazing.Not quite ready for a full

Wild for Camp! (Juniors Week 3) $475 Campers who attend this program will have
the opportunity to visit the Wild Center in Tupper Lake to learn more about the
Adirondacks, meet live animals, and experience the Wild Walk—a four-story twig tree
house complete with a huge bald eagle’s nest at the top! This is not to be missed!
Campers will also participate in all their favorite camp activities, including swimming,
boating, climbing the ‘Iceberg,’ high and low ropes course, archery, crafts, and many
more! Girls will also develop their outdoor skills as they learn to cook over a fire and
camp out with all of their new friends. Throughout the course of the week the campers
will earn their Camper badge!
gorgeous Adirondack Mountains. Throughout the course of the trip, the girls will learn
teamwork and outdoor skills as they become closer with nature and each other. Come
challenge yourself while you explore the great Adirondacks! Girls must have camping
experience; not for beginners.
Upward Bound (Cadette Week 1) $500 Girls going into grades 6-8 will spend
3 days and 2 nights hiking through the Adirondacks. Girls will learn how to prep and
plan for a trip, and then put their skills to the test as they head out to the mountains.
The girls will learn teamwork and outdoor skills, as they experience the great beauty
that our environment has to offer. Come ready to have a blast, while getting a peek
at our nearby peaks. Great for beginners!
Paddler’s Paradise (Cadette Weeks 2 + 4) $500 Girls going into grades 6-8 will
spend 3 days and 2 nights kayaking through the Adirondacks. Girls will learn how to
prep and plan for a trip, and then put their skills to the test as they head out to the water.
The girls will learn teamwork and outdoor skills while practicing their paddling techniques.
Come dip your toes into the world of kayaking, while developing close friendships with
those around you.
Adirondack Teaser (Cadette Week 5, Senior and Ambassador Week 3) $500
Campers will spend 3 days and 2 nights in the Adirondacks, with each day bringing a
new adventure. They will spend one day hiking a mountain, one day boating down a river,
and one day whitewater rafting over rapids. After each day’s adventure, the girls will get
to relax around a campfire as they spend their nights at a local campground. Come meet
new friends and try something new as you explore the Adirondacks! Great for beginners
and experienced campers alike!
Best of Both Worlds (Senior and Ambassador Week 1 – 2) $675 Girls going into
grades 9-12 will spend two weeks adventuring through the Adirondacks. Girls will spend
a few days at camp prepping and planning for their adventure. They will then embark
in canoes for the first half of the trip. The second half of the trip will be spent hiking the

Camp Amahami
Amahami Adventure Center, named after the Native American word meaning
“mountainous country,” is located in the foothills of the Catskills Mountain Range in
Deposit, NY. Amahami is our largest and most remote camp, offering the greatest variety
in lodging, from modern troop bunkhouses, to cabins, to platform tent units. Home to
over 450 acres, its own lake, hiking trails and an amazing retired DEC fire tower
(the highest point in Broome County!), Amahami has something to offer every girl.
Amahami Adventure Center is one of our locations for girls to experience “classic camp,”
meaning girls have ample opportunities to try all of the activities that make going to
Girl Scout summer camp so special, such as archery, GaGa Ball, swimming and
boating, and hiking!

Leadership Training/CIT and Adventurer in Training Programs
Essentials of Leadership: CIT 1 at Comstock Adventure Center
Ages 15 - 18, $500
Session 1 (Two full week sessions): July 9 - 21, 2017
Session 2 (Two full week sessions): July 23 - August 4, 2017
Want to learn what it takes to be a leader at camp? Come to Comstock and be a
Counselor-in-Training. You’ll learn more about yourself and strengthen your leadership
skills in areas including group dynamics, decision making, and conflict resolution.
During the second week of camp, you’ll take a more active role with our younger campers
and even design your own program. Immerse yourself in the camp culture at Comstock
for two full weeks of resident camp, including the weekend between. Over the weekend
we’ll take a break for some rest and relaxation in Ithaca and at camp, where we’ll debrief
our first week, get ready for our second week, and just chill. Upon completion of the
session, girls will have earned their CIT 1 mentoring award. Girls must have previously
attended resident camp or have equivalent troop camping experience prior to applying
for the CIT 1 program. All prospective CITs must submit an application (sent to you
upon registration) and attend an in-person interview.

Continue your journey of learning about leadership by taking on a more active role in our
camp community working with campers and your peers. During your first week at camp,
you’ll rotate between our different specialized camp activities, learning what each has to
offer. At the end of week one, you’ll decide which program area you’d like to specialize
in. Over the weekend we’ll take a break for some rest and relaxation in Ithaca and at
camp, where we’ll debrief our first week, get ready for our second week, and just chill.
During your second week, you’ll be paired with a staff mentor who will help you to further
develop your leadership skills in addition to activity specific training, which may include
certifications in your chosen area. Along with your mentor, you will help to plan the
program activities for your second week at camp. Upon completion of the session,
girls will have earned their CIT 2 mentoring award. Girls must have previously attended
a CIT 1 program or equivalent prior to applying for the CIT 2 program. All prospective
CITs must submit an application (sent to you upon registration) and attend an
in-person interview.

Adventurer-in-Training (AIT) at Trefoil Adventure Center
Ages 16 - 18, $675
Two full week session: July 30 - August 11, 2017
Girls ages 16 and up will spend two full weeks at Trefoil Adventure Center learning
how to be a leader and most importantly, an adventurer! Girls will learn the skills
essential to being a great camp counselor, while also learning more about the outdoors.
They will receive introductory ropes course and archery trainings, while also earning
their Lifeguarding and CPR/First Aid certifications. The group will also take a one-night
trip outside of camp to develop their trip skills. Come learn more about yourself as
you work towards your camping future!
Participation in a CIT or AIT program does not guarantee hiring as a future camp staff with Girl Scouts
of NYPENN Pathways.

My favorite thing about camp is: The waterfront! That is my home.
Whether it’s leading twilight or polar bear swims, canoeing, kayaking or
banana boating, or even lifeguarding … one way or another, I can’t get
enough of the lake! Add songs by the campfire and I’m in heaven.
I was born to camp! Mom was a camper in the legacy Seven Lakes council in the
1970s and 80s, and I followed in her footsteps to spend 13 summers at various Girl Scout
summer camps as a camper, CIT, lifeguard, trip leader and counselor, Assistant Camp
Director, and Director. Last summer I served as Camp Director of Trefoil Adventure
Center! I earned a bachelor’s degree in music, and then completed my master’s degree
in Recreation with a concentration in Outdoor and Environmental Education and Camp
Administration from SUNY Cortland. Now I get to live my dream to be a camp director as
a career! I have lots of experience working with youth in other ways, from teaching and
coaching swimming to planning events for families and children at the Pittsburgh Zoo.
This summer, I’m looking forward to making sure every girl who attends camp gets the
same amazing and impactful camp experiences that I got from my own camp days.
When not at camp, you can find me working hard facilitating programs at Comstock
Adventure Center as a full-time Outdoor Program Manager.

My favorite thing about camp is: There’s nothing quite like sitting
on the dock with a fishing pole in my hand -- or the feeling you get high
atop the trees on the zip line platform helping a girl conquer her fears!
That’s the magic of camp.
I started my Girl Scout journey as a child, and I now enjoy showing today’s Girl Scouts
just how much fun the outdoors can be. Originally from Oneida, NY, I attended school at
Herkimer Community College and Lees-McRae College. Over the past 11 years I have filled
many roles at camp, including Counselor, Waterfront Director, Assistant Director, and
Camp Director. Over the years I have worked at many of our council’s camps including
Glengarra, Agaliha, Comstock, Amahami, and Trefoil, but I’m super excited to be the Camp
Director at Trefoil this summer, as it feels like home to me (and it is, because I now live
here year round!). I know camp opens the doors to new possibilities and opportunities
for girls, while instilling confidence in them that they didn’t know they had. Whether your
girl is on a high adventure trip or it’s her first time away from home, my goals for her are
to try something new, make a new friend, and create lifelong memories. The best part of
my job is seeing girls return year after year, and making sure first timers want to come
back for that second (and more!) year.
When not at camp, I am the full time program facilitator for Trefoil Adventure Center
and the northern counties!

My favorite thing about camp is: My boots were made
for walking – all over camp! I also love camp songs, the louder
the better!
I’ve been going to summer camp for as long as I can remember.
Like many of your daughters, I started young. I started as a Brownie -in the Green and White Mountains Council in New Hampshire and enjoyed 6 years at
Girl Scout camps as a camper. I worked for the Daniel Webster Council at the Boy
Scouts of America the summers of 2009-2013 as Nature Director, CIT Director,
Assistant Program Director, and Commissioner. For the summers of 2015 and 2016 I journeyed to Cimarron, New Mexico where I
worked for Philmont Scout Ranch. I led volunteers in building and maintaining hiking
trails in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and also led 2-week backpacking treks for
teens. Fall of 2016 I returned to Philmont Ranch, and was pleased to join the Girl Scouts
of NYPENN this January to begin my adventure here!
My degree is in Forest Ecosystem Science, earned at the SUNY College of Environment
Science and Forestry. I am truly honored and excited to bring outdoor adventure to the
girls of Central New York and beyond.
When I’m not at camp, I work full time as the Outdoor Program Manager planning
programs and events at Amahami Adventure Center.
