Apple Tree Class
Summer 1 Topic Letter – Hungry Caterpillar
We launch this topic with the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. From this story we will be
exploring healthy foods, the life cycle of a caterpillar and different minibeasts. We will be hatching
our own butterflies in class and Zoo Lab will be visiting us with lots of minibeasts!
Literacy
N & R – We will be sharing the stories The
Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Very Quiet
Cricket. We will be looking at some nonfiction books too to find out about
minibeasts
R – We will be writing about the life cycle of
the caterpillar and facts about minibeasts
Understanding of the
world
N & R – We will be watching our
own caterpillars and talking
about their life cycle. We will be
going on minibeast hunts and
talking about the things we see.
Look out for the letter about our
Zoo Lab visit on 17th May.
Home Learning Ideas:

Numeracy
N – We will be playing counting
and number recognition games and
constructing with 3D shapes
R – We will be solving problems
based on halving, doubling and
