Warm up!

Warm up!
1. Find the measures of an interior angle and exterior angle of a regular nonagon.
Day 24 Topic
3D Figures
Objective
The student will be able find the surface area of a prism and a
cylinder.
3-D Figures
• Polyhedron – a solid that is bounded by polygons,
called faces, that enclose a single region of space.
• Edge – a line segment formed by the intersection of
two faces.
• Faces - sides
• Vertex – a point where three or more edges meet.
Types of Solids
• 5 types
1. Prism
2. Pyramid
The prism and pyramid are polyhedra.
3. Cone
4. Cylinder
5. Sphere
The cone, cylinder, and sphere are not
polyhedra.
Right vs Oblique Prisms
Right Prism
Oblique Prism
Prisms and pyramids are classified by
the shapes of their bases.
1. A rectangular prism has a rectangle for the bases.
2. A triangular prism has a triangle for the bases.
3. A hexagonal prism has a hexagon for the bases.
base
Lateral faces
base
(Area of all the bases and lateral faces)
Lateral Area is only the lateral faces.
The bases are not included.
Lateral Area = Ph
Example: Find the Surface Area
6 in.
10 in.
SA = 2B + Ph
5 in.
