Eight years of steady,
diversified support…
Beginning in 2008 around a kitchen table, SLED
closed its first fiscal year with nearly $9,000 in
individual contributions from community
members that shared SLED’s belief that strong schools
make a strong community.
In just eight short years, SLED has grown from a
handful of committed parents to an organization
with a $200,000+ annual budget and a reputation for being an effective and
transparent conduit for businesses, foundations and other community members to
support San Leandro schools.
By July of 2016, SLED had brought nearly
$1,000,000 in additional resources to San
Leandro’s students. From providing $25,000
in operating funds to open the Performing
Arts Center until it could become selfsustaining, to stepping in to support and
expand Season of Service, Period of
Peace when the original funding ran out, to
providing over $50,000 in camperships for
Outdoor Education, the San Leandro
Education Foundation has supported the programs our community values and our kids
need to mature into confident, caring adults. Because when a child succeeds, we all succeed.

• Sent 588 third graders to the San Leandro History Museum to learn their place
in the history of San Leandro.
Partnered with Philanthropic Ventures to provide over $4,000 in Youth Opportunity Scholarships
for middle schoolers.
With a grant from Kaiser Permanente, translated Season of Service projects into Spanish and Cantonese
to reach a broader audience.
Helped to fund “Teen Basic Breakthrough” weekend intensive for San Leandro High students.
Partnered with Ghirardelli Chocolate Company to link San Leandro High School Alumni to a summer
internship program.
