Simple Mathematical Tricks

INTRODUCTION
Mental Mathematics as a project has been running successfully in all the Government
schools of Delhi since its inception in 2004. The main objectives of this project were to
· Remove Maths phobia in the students
· Sharpen their calculation skills and
· Make learning of Mathematics joyful and interesting.
The Mental Maths Quiz competitions held every year have contributed towards achieving
these objectives to a large extent. Since Mental Maths is “Maths without the use of pen and
paper”, it is essential to provide simplified ways of common but lengthy calculations.
The teachers of Mathematics associated with the project have compiled few tricks in this
booklet. I believe these will prove very useful for the students to learn to do calculations mentally
th
and thereby also solve the one mark and two mark questions in the class 10 examination.
