Target Goals: The students will be able to: 

To solve and graph compound inequalities containing the word “and” or “or”
Describe the solution set of an inequality using interval notation.
Notes:
Define: Compound Inequalities _______________________________________________

Information about Compound Inequalities
Containing “and”
Both inequalities are true at the
same time.
Containing “or”
Either of the inequalities are
true, or both of the inequalities
are true.
The graph is the intersection of
the graphs of the two
inequalities. (Where the
graphs overlap).
The graph is the union of the
graphs of the two inequalities.
(Where either of the graphs
exist).
For Example:
A “Union” of two sets contains all parts from both sets. The word “OR” is used for a Union. An “Intersection” of two sets contains only the parts that are in common. The word “AND”, is used for an intersection. Sample: Set A contains all 26 red cards from a deck of cards Set B contains all of the face cards (Jacks, Queens, and Kings) The “Union” of the 2 sets, Set A “OR” Set B would be all of the cards in both sets. The “Intersection” of the two sets, Set A “AND” Set B would be the red jacks, the red queens, and the red Kings. More Notes:
