Rural programmes:
RBI2 ($100m)
• Improved broadband to the greatest number of rural end users; and
• Support the achievement of similar rates of access across New Zealand
regions
MBS ($50m)
• improves the coverage of mobile services to support safety on State
Highways and enhance visitor experience at key tourist destinations.
Government’s aspiration for broadband 2025
• 99% of New Zealanders at least 50 Mbps*
• Remaining 1% of New Zealanders have access to at least 10 Mbps

• Grants from Telecommunications Development Levy (TDL).
• Designed to fund telecommunications capability not available
commercially or at an affordable price.
• Opportunity for Councils to add co-funding to extend benefits.
• Any co-funding is optional for Councils.
