The first day of the period is always menstrual cycle day 1. If a menstrual cycle is shorter, longer or unpredictable it might be a sign that something isn't right. (Take a free quiz at www.chickfoodinc.com for more info.) V-Steam MC Day 5 and/or 6 A vaginal steam on MC day 5 and/or 6 is a hygenic measure to clean left over menses residue and kill odor. It is okay to steam at this time if you have brownish old discharge. V-Steam MC Day 24, 25 and 26 Steaming for 3 days in a row before the period helps to encourage the period to come on time and clean left over menses residue that displays as a hesitant start (brownish old discharge). It also helps to prevent clots, cramps, uterine pain and bloating during the upcoming period. FERTILITY SCHEDULE* EXERCISE SCHEDULE NUTRITION SCHEDULE Period MC Days 1-4 A woman is normally infertile during her period. Despite this, it is not considered a good time for intercourse. This exercise schedule is based on a woman's energy cycle. It works like a battery. Her energy charges up for 2 weeks until full. Then it is used for 2 weeks. Once empty she rests and then charges up again. And so on. Warm Uterus Cleansing Foods MC Days 1-6 Warm foods help clean the uterus by keeping the blood circulating in the mid section of the body. This can help relieve and prevent cramps, uterine pain and clots. Warming foods appropriate for the period include Ginger, Thyme, Cumin, Marjoram, Turmeric, Cinnamon and Parsley, especially in hot cereal, tea or soup. Probable Infertility MC Days 7-10 The "probably" depends on how long sperm can live. They are generally believed to live for 3 days inside a woman. In such case a woman should be infertile during these days. However, it is possible that under optimal conditions healthy sperm might be able to live longer. Possibly Fertile MC Day 11 If a woman ovulates on day 14, she is fertile on MC day 11. If she ovulates on day 15 or 16 (and the sperm only live 3 days), then she is not. It is very common for a woman's ovulation to fluctuate between day 14 or 15 from month to month. For birth control purposes, definitely use protection during this day. For conception, wait another day. Fertile MC Days 12-16 Intercourse between a woman with a healthy womb and a man with healthy sperm during the fertile days will normally result in a pregnancy Possible Fertility MC Day 17 A woman is possibly still fertile on MC day 17 if she ovulates on day 16. V-Steam Kit from Chick Food: Chick Spa $150 www.chickfoodinc.com for more info Free Quiz www.chickfoodinc.com for period analysis Probable Infertility MC Day 18 A woman is probably infertile on MC day 18 because ovulation, which is believed to last for 24 hours, should be over. However, it is conceivable that ovulation can last longer in certain women. If this is the case, then a woman who ovulated on day 16 and had a longer-thannormal ovulation, might still be fertile. For birth control purposes, it is best to use protection on this day. x=Infertile MC Days 19-29 and 1-6 For birth control, the infertile period from MC day 19 until the period starts is the safest time for intercourse. *CAUTION: This fertility schedule is only applicable for menstrual cycles that are consistently 28-30 days. Rest Period MC Days 1-4 Resting during the period helps to recharge a woman's energy. The better rested a woman is during her period, the more energy she will have the rest of the month. (It's a lot like sleep--the better you sleep at night, the more energy you'll have throughout the day). Resting during the period should include sleeping 10 hours per night and napping during the day if tired. Additional activities might include breathing exercises, stretching, abdominal massage, slow walks, nature watching, journaling, using a heating pad and so on. To the extent possible, refrain from work, heavy lifting, social engagements, stressful activities, news, exercise, entertaining, going outdoors at night and sex. Historically women used to separate from men during this time to focus fully on self-care. Warm Up MC Days 5-13 The week after the period is the time for a woman to collect energy through warm-up exercises. She is still charging up her energy at this time. These warm-up exercises should give a woman energy and not deplete her. Examples include breathing exercises, stretching, speed walking, 5 minutes of cardiovascular exercise and so on. Cardio MC Days 14-24 Cardio and heavy exercise are recommended every day during MC Days 14-24. This is a woman's highest energy poing in her cycle and she must use her energy so that it does not become stagnant and slow circulation. Cool Down MC Days 25-29 MC Days 25-29 is a cool down period. The body is preparing for the upcoming period. During this time heavy exercise should stop. Instead, a woman should engage in cool down activities. Examples include walking, stretching, massage, hot/cold therapy, breathing exercises, jumping jacks and so on. Avoid Cold MC Days 1-6 Cold foods can make the body cold and constrict circulation making it more difficult for the uterus to clean out. These include ice cream, smoothies, iced beverages and other refrigerated or frozen foods. Blood Tonics MC Days 1-13 During menstruation and the week afterwards a woman needs blood tonics to help her body generate additional blood. Common foods that replenish blood include: Eggs, Chicken, Red Meat, Seafood, Liver, Dark Leafy Greens, Spirulina, Gojis, Beets, Mushrooms, Seaweeds and Oxtail. For best blood nourishment, eat at least three meals a day that incorporate the above foods. Hydration MC Days 1-13 During the period and the week afterwards a woman needs to stay well hydrated to help her organs generate additional fluids and to regulate hormones. Drink at least 64oz of fluid per day. The following foods are also helpful: Chia Seeds (soaked), Nettles, Nopales, Aloe Vera, Colloidal Silver, Spirulina, Gojis, Sweet Potatoes, Yams, Papaya, Berries, Millet, Carrot juice and Yogurt. Energy MC Days 14-24 During and after the ovulation, integrate foods into the diet that help boost energy. Such foods include: Clove, Dill, Fennel, Garlic, Lamb, Pistachio, Lobster, Goat, Nutmeg, Quinoa, Rosemary, Sage, Shrimp, Walnut, Thyme, Black Tea, Green Tea, Dark Chocolate. Circulation MC Days 14-24 During and after the ovulation, integrate foods that help with circulation. These include: Carrot, Basil, Chive, Fennel, Dill, Coriander, Grapefruit, Garlic, Marjoram, Peach, Peppermint, Radish, Squash, Turmeric, Vinegar, Chilli Pepper, Onion, Mustard Leaf, Scallion, Rose, Turnip, Chestnut. Balance&Relaxation MC Days 25-29 The days before the period should include foods that help with balance and relaxation. Foods to integrate include: Sweet Potato, Yam, Millet, Celery, Hibiscus, Red Rasberry Leaf, Herbal Teas, Rice, Oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, Raw Honey and Warm Almond/Rice Milk among others. FERTILITY NOTES* Ovulation The key to a woman's fertility is ovulation. Ovulation is when a woman's egg releases from the ovary and is available for fertilization. Signs of Ovulation 1) A woman should feel a noticeable spike in her energy during ovulation. 2) Cervical mucus during this time is an egg white clear nectar. 3) The body temperature rises after a woman ovulates. Women can use ovulation calculators that take daily temperature to verify once she has ovulated. When does Ovulation Occur? A woman's ovulation is normally the mid point in her menstrual cycle (about 2 weeks after day 1 of her period). Ovulation naturally occurs on day 14, 15 or 16 of the menstrual cycle.* It fluctuates slightly from month to month. Ovulation is believed to last for 24 hours. Technically, this is when a woman actually conceives. Sperm: the other conception factor Even though women can only conceive during the 24 hours she ovulates, sperm can live in her body for longer than 24 hours. This means a woman's window to conceive depends on how long sperm stay alive. If there are live sperm in her uterus when she ovulates, she can conceive. It is commonly believed that sperm can live up to 3 days inside a woman's womb. NOTE: There are many claims that sperm have lived longer and/or shorter in a woman's womb. How long they actually survive probably depends on the healthiness of the sperm and how favorable the womb environment is. Under optimal conditions, healthy sperm might be able to survive 5-7 days. Fertility Readiness If you are ready for a baby: 1) Make sure that your menstrual cycle is 28-30 days for at least 3 months in a row. 2) Make sure that you ovulate on menstrual cycle day 14, 15 or 16. 3) Make sure that your period is healthy (4 days, red color, medium flow, no negative symptoms). 4) On the month you want to conceive, both partners should completely avoid sex or masturbation from day 1 of the woman's period. This ensures a healthy womb enviornment and very healthy, eager sperm. 5) Have sex right before or during ovulation on menstrual cycle day 14 or 15..* Natural Birth Control If you want to make sure NOT to conceive: 1) Make sure that your menstrual cycle is 28-30 days for at least 3 months in a row. 2) Make sure that you ovulate on menstrual cycle day 14, 15 or 16. 3) Make sure that your period is healthy (4 days, red color, medium flow, no negative symptoms). 4) Avoid sex on menstrual cycle days 7-18. * NOTES: You can use contraceptives to have sex on MC days 7-18 and, most likely, not conceive if you and your partner are skilled at using contraceptives.* If you choose to have sex with contraceptives on these days, both partners should be okay with the small chance of conceiving a child in the case that the contraceptive fails. Absolutely DO NOT use the pull out method during MC days 7-18. For MC days 19-29, a woman cannot conceive a child.* This is the best time of the month for sex if a woman is trying to make sure not to conceive.* *CAUTION: This ONLY applies to women with a normal 28-30 day menstrual cycle with regular ovulation. FAQs What if I am not ovulating? Women naturally do not ovulate during pregnancy, after menopause and before their first period. They also may not ovulate during breastfeeding, although some women do. Other than that, a woman should naturally ovulate once a month. Not ovulating is a sign that something is off. Iron, Quick and Stubborn Chicks tend to have ovulation inconsistencies. Iron Chicks tend not to ovulate because the body doesn't have the nutrients to sustain pregnancy. Treatment involves nourishing the blood. Quick Chicks tend to have early ovulation because the body is too weak to hold the egg in the ovaries until day 15. Treatment involves increasing energy, strengthening digestion and lengthening the menstrual cycle. Stubborn Chicks tend to have irregular ovulation because they have irregular periods and the timing gets off. They also might not ovulate at all if there are blockages in the fallopian tubes or the uterus is too cold. Treatment involves regularizing the menstrual cycle and clearing blockages. Why does my menstrual cylce have to be 28-30 days to use natural planning? That's not what is normal for me. Quick Chicks tend to have menstrual cycles that are 27 days or less. This is a sign that the body is too weak to hold the egg in the uterus for the normal 28-30 days. Quick Chicks tend to have difficulty conceiving and are at higher risk of miscarriage, premature birth, hemorrhoids, low energy, digestive problems and skin wrinkles. It is highly recommended that Quick Chicks lengthen their menstrual cycle before conceiving in order to reduce the risk of losing the pregnancy or premature birth. Stubborn Chicks tend to have menstrual cycles that are irregular or long (31 days or more). This is a sign of a circulation issue that may be caused for a number of reasons. Because Stubborn Chicks are not on the normal 28-30 day pattern, the ovulation can fall out of pattern as well. When the ovulation falls out of the normal pattern, it is unpredictable and the woman may ovulate at any point in her cycle. In this case, naturally calculating fertility is not reliable until the menstrual cycle is regularized. I REALLY don't want to get pregnant. How can I be SURE that natural planning will work? In order to use natural planning, your cycle must be regular. Make sure that your cycle is a regular 28-30 days for 3 months in a row and that you are ovulating around day 15. If this is the case, then you can depend on natural planning. The safest thing to do is to only sleep with a man during your infertile days and avoid sex altogether while you're fertile. If you sleep with a man during your fertile time, use a reliable contraceptive and consider using more than one (i.e. condom and spermicide). If you are fertile DO NOT depend on the pull out method. Is it possible to get pregnant during menstruation? I know someone this happened to. Yes. If a woman's cycle is not in balance, then she can ovulate (and therefore get pregnant) at any time. If a woman's cycle is regular, then she cannot get pregnant during her menstruation. Despite likely infertility during menstruation, sex during this time is not recommended. What if I'm on birth control? Does this matter? Even if you're on birth control your body is still following a cycle. Try to be in tune with the natural cycle and the ways that the hormones affect it. If you control the timing of your period, plan it with the new moon or full moon so that you are still as close to the natural cycle as possible. Also, pay close attention to your period and try to make sure it is healthy. Should I stop my birth control? That's totally up to you. Birth control has many potential side effects and many unknowns and it is up to you whether the risk is worth it. If you are on birth control because of health reasons (i.e. cramps), birth control can make the symptom go away but doesn't correct the underlying problem. If you don't address the problem, the health issue may turn into something much more serious (with or without the birth control). If birth control makes your periods heavy, then it is important to take extra measures not to become blood deficient which can cause headaches and low energy. If birth control makes your periods brownish in color, then it is important to take extra measures to ensure your uterus is fully cleaning out every month and no residue is being left over. If birth control makes periods go away all together, then take extra measures to ensure that you don't experience circulation issues and hormonal imbalance from changing your normal cycle.
