King Duncan has
been murdered!
Dagger
Bedroom
Who could have
committed such
a crime?
Prime Suspects
Prince Malcolm
Prince Donalbain
The Witches
Macbeth
Banquo
Lady Macbeth
The Guards
Who would want
to kill the King?
What would their
motive(s) be?
The Guards
The Guards have worked tirelessly
for King Duncan for years…and for
what? Poor pay, no respect, no
promotion: there are many reasons
they would want a new employer!
In groups:
What could their
motive be?
Be prepared to share it with
the rest of the year group.
Now that you
have heard their
motives, who do
you think the
killer could be?
?
And the
murderer is…
Macbeth!
Lady Macbeth persuades Macbeth to
kill King Duncan. He is very
unwilling; the King is his guest and
his friend! And what if they get
caught? But his wife is very, very
persuasive and she bullies him into
complying with her perfect plan.
Once King Duncan is sleeping, Lady
Macbeth brings the bodyguards a cup
of wine, a cup of poisoned wine. The
wine is drugged and within minutes
the guards are asleep.
Macbeth takes their daggers, creeps
into the King’s bedroom and stabs
King Duncan with their weapons!
Why?
What’s the plan?
The plan is to put the daggers back on
the sleeping guards to make it look
like they did it. But the plan goes
wrong! After he kills Duncan,
Macbeth is so shocked by what he’s
done he walks straight out into the
courtyard carrying the blood-stained
daggers. If anyone saw him..!
When Lady Macbeth sees him she is
furious!
“Why did you
bring the daggers
from
the place, they
must lie there.”
She takes them back to the room, to
place them on the guards.
She returns, her hands covered with
blood.
As they wash the blood from their
hands, there is a knock at the castle
gate. Another Lord of Scotland,
Macduff (the Thane of Fife) as arrived
to wake up King Duncan.
Macbeth cleans up and greets him.
Macduff goes up to Duncan’s room
and discovers the body.
Who gets the blame?
The bodyguards!
No one suspects the truth…no one. It
seems Macbeth and his wife have
committed the perfect crime.
And so Scotland must choose a new
King.
Who do you think should
become the next King of
Prince Malcolm?
Prince Donalbain?
Macbeth?
Banquo?
Lady Macbeth as Queen?
Well, it should be Prince Malcom,
because he is the elder son.
But Malcolm, and his younger brother
Donalbain, are worried about
something.
What?
They’re worried that the person who
killed their father might kill them !
So, what do they do?
They run away –
Malcolm to England and Donalbain
to Ireland.
So who do the people of
Scotland choose to
become their next King?
They choose the hero of the moment…
Macbeth
As Macbeth becomes King, Lady
Macbeth becomes Queen.
Their greatest ambition has been
achieved.
“All hail Macbeth –
King of Scotland.
All hail Lady Macbeth
– Queen of Scotland.”
So Macbeth is King, Lady Macbeth is
Queen. And all so soon after Macbeth
met the witches!
How do you think they
are feeling now?
