A - Z fundraising tips
Art night – get your friends and
family together and create items
to sell. Be inspired by the
colours of Rio when creating
candles, greeting cards,
jewellery or anything you
can think of!
Dinner party – hold a world
food night or Brazilian
themed dinner party at your
place and charge friends
and family to come along.
Brazilian BBQ – hold a regular
BBQ to raise funds and get
your friends and family together
or get colourful and try some
Brazilian recipes to be authentic!
Fancy dress day – pick
sports or countries
and ask work or school
colleagues to come
dressed up for a gold coin
donation.
Email your friends to let them know you’re
participating in #RelayingtoRio and ask
them to donate to you.
Go for gold – have a gold themed
morning or afternoon tea. Ask
for a gold coin donation, award
medals for top desserts and
outfits and have lots of fun games.
Indoor games – organise a table
tennis or darts competition, bingo
or board game day. Or hold your
own mini Olympics, with teams from
each department participating in
different games.
Juice stand – get
tropical and healthy and
have a juice stand day at
your work or school.
Crazy hat/ hair day – whether
you theme it countries, sports or
carnival. Encourage your work
or school to get involved and
bring a gold coin. Have prizes
for best, most inventive and most
outrageous hair styles or hats!
Marathon events – hold a marathon
table tennis, aerobics, gym, dancing,
badminton or any sport or activity day.
Aim for 4 to12 hours, get lots of people
involved to make sure all shifts are filled.
Lip sync battle as different
countries. Pick a country and
lip sync to a famous musician’s
or band’s songs.
Night at the movies - why not get
those motivational, gut-wrenching
sports movies out. Charge a gold coin
for entry and more for VIP areas and
popcorn!
Quizzes –– go all out and hold a trivia
night. Theme questions around Rio and the
Olympics for great trivia questions.
Ten thousand steps – get your
family and friends to donate to
help you reach 10,000 steps every
day for a week. Why not commit to trying
two Olympic sports you’ve never played before
in a week and see if during a game you can
reach 10,000 steps?
Volley ball – get
into the Rio de
Janerio spirit and
hold a beach volley
ball competition!
Carnival – hold a carnival
parade. Perhaps have some
Brazilian or Olympic sports or
a world themed fair.
Karaoke night – go
Eurovision and have
teams participate as
different countries.
Opening ceremony party – host a fundraising event for the opening
ceremony of the Olympics! Charge entry and hold a raffle, a lucky door
prize and best dressed competition – ask your friends to come dressed
as their favourite country.
Penalty shootout - people pay to enter a soccer, basketball or
rugby penalty shootout. Pit two people against each other and go
for best out of three shots. Get a football team or sports shop to
donate some prizes.
Raffles – have sports prizes
donated from local sporting
stores or sporting clubs.
Scavenger hunt – put together
a scavenger hunt based on
sports or different countries.
Unusual Olympic sports day – these events have
been discontinued from the Olympics; croquet, tug a
war, underwater swimming race and rope climbing.
Why not pick one and have some fun.
Wacky world record attempts – find out some wacky world records and see if you
can get sponsored to attempt them. e X-treme sports. Get some friends together to
go white-water rafting or mountain bike riding, add a few dollars to the costs or ask
friends to make donations to your group. If you’re feeling really adventurous why not sky
go diving, bungy jumping or something you’re afraid of in your Relay For Life shirt. Ask for
donations to help you overcome your fear.
X-treme games!
Why not do something extreme and ask
friends and family to donate to you. Try
skydiving or skateboarding – anything
that’s out there and exciting!
Yes challenge – tell your friends, family or
colleagues that for a day you will say yes to
any errands, challenges or activities – for a
price - a donation to your Relay team.
Zumba day – what better way to celebrate the Olympics going to South America than with a
dose of South American dancing? Approach a local studio to see if they will hold a charity day for
your Relay team. Why not try other Latin American styles like samba, tango or salsa?
