Series 242: Frogs
Frogs
Childhood is a period of enormous physical,
mental and emotional development. Young
children are very aware of the changes they
are experiencing and can gain understanding
of these changes by watching the physical
development of animals and plants.
The life-cycle of a frog is a great example of
physical change over time. Young children
can learn a lot about the growing process by
observing and learning about the way
tadpoles slowly develop into frogs.
This week in Play School we learn all about frogs through movement, song and creative play.

MAKE AND DO
Paint an Animal Mural
You will need:
Paper
Different coloured paints
Paint brushes
Patty pans
Glue
Paint a night-time landscape on a piece of paper. Include a big tree.
Think about what animals might sit in the tree and what sounds they might make. There might
be an owl that hoots or a possum that hisses. Paint the animals into your tree. If you paint an
owl, you might like to glue on some patty pan eyes!
What other animals might live in the night-time world of your painting? There might be some
flapping bats in the sky, a miaowing cat on a fence or a slithering snake on the ground. Paint
them all into your picture.

How to Play an Insect Eating Game
You will need:
2 paper plates
Brown & green paint
Paint brushes
Coloured crayons or markers
2 egg carton cells
Tape
2 party blowers
Black, brown, white & red crepe paper
Echidna Puppet
Paint a paper plate brown and set aside to dry.
Once dry, fold the paper plate in half. Take a coloured crayon or marker and draw on some
eyes, a long nose and lots of spikes.
Tear a small hole in the middle of the paper plate fold, big enough for the party blower to
poke through. Tape in place.
Frog Puppet
Paint or colour a paper plate green.
Fold the paper plate in half.
Tape on two egg carton cells for eyes. Colour in the centre of the egg carton cells.
Add a party blower tongue, as above.
Insects
Scrunch up small pieces of coloured crepe paper to make insects - black for ants, brown for
termites, white for flies and red for mosquitoes.
How to Play
Make two piles of insects on a table top – a pile of ants and termites for the echidna and a
pile of flies and mosquitoes for the frog.
Along with a friend or family member, blow through the party blowers. Your aim is to blow
your pile of insects off the table. Whoever blows all their insects of first, wins!
