LIANG SICHENG CUP: The 1st Global

LIANG SICHENG CUP
The 1st Global Architectural Design Competition
Hometown of Overseas Chinese
Introduction
Guangdong is the largest hometown of overseas Chinese.
their hometown for foreign countries.
Our ancestors left
They went overseas to new horizons
for studying, working or living. However, they missed their hometown and
wished to serve it by all means. When they subsequently returned to their
hometown, they brought with them overseas culture, new knowledge or
technology and modern living ideas as well as their offsprings.
Based in the
conclusiveness of Guangdong culture, Jiangmen’s architectural culture is
gradually formed, which combines traditional culture and nature with
innovation and absorbs both western and eastern philosophy.
Apparently, the unique Lingnan style architecture of humanism has also been
transformed by the returning overseas Chinese. It is gradually influenced by
their inception of western architectural culture.
As is known, Jiangmen is the first hometown of overseas Chinese in China.
There are more than 3, 000 Diaolou as architectural treasure with the
integration of western and eastern culture and the world non-materials
cultural heritage. Such mix makes Jiangmen a “Hometown of Overseas
Chinese”(HOC).
To promote the balanced mix of Chinese heritage and modern architecture, we
organize this competition, namely Liang Sicheng Cup.
Through this “Global
Architectural Design Competition – Homeland of Overseas Chinese”, we
expect to boost the global designers’ passion towards the integration of
Chinese heritage and western architectural culture that has been well
demonstrated in Jiangmen.
Liang Qichao, a native of Xinhui, Jiangmen, was a renowned Chinese
philosopher, thinker and educator. Three of his sons, Liang Sicheng, Liang
Siyong and Liang Sili, were elected as academicians, making the Liang family
a legend. Liang Sicheng, along with his wife Lin Huiyin, established an
important place for Chinese architectural design and culture in the world, as
they made indelible contributions to the research and preservation of ancient
Chinese architecture, as well as the inheritance and development of Chinese
humanistic
architectural
culture.
