Instructions as to how and where to print your poster

GE 109 Large Format Poster Printing - 2016
Hi guys! Here are instructions for printing your posters.
There are 2 locations for printing your posters for GE 109. The GPS Map Library and the
Astronomy department in Cahill. The GPS Map Library is less expensive because we have a
less-expensive paper in the printer ($6.50/foot vs. $10/foot)
The instructions for printing the posters at each location are here below:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------GPS Map Library - room 207 North Mudd:
Tony Diaz is in charge of the GPS facility. He can help you getting started with the hardware.
Please note: George and I would very much like for you to print them yourselves vs. sending a
.pdf to Tony and having him do it. -Thanks!
This week, April 28-29, Tony will be here Thursday (but not 12-3) and Friday (but not during
lunch).
Next week, May 2-6, 2016, Tony will be here Monday through Wednesday (except during lunch
period), but will leave at noon on Thursday and will be gone all day Friday.
---- PLAN AHEAD ----The printer is in the map room, which, is usually locked. Therefore it is best to contact Tony
([email protected]) and set up a time with him when you'd like to print out the poster
(during 8-5 working hours). There are instructions on the table next to the scanner and
instructions below. You may be able to arrange with Tony to leave the room unlocked for you
for evening hours. When you e-mail Tony, let him know it is for Ge 109.
There is a clipboard on top of the keyboard to fill in your account information. Please provide
your name, linear-feet printed, and the account to charge to.

appropriate print size, based on the font size and pixel density that you
created during the creation of your document.

Here are some notes on what worked for one grad student not too long ago. NOTE
DIFFERENT POSTER SIZE from what is listed in your syllabus (which is fine):
What worked:
- save eps poster as 36x48 pdf
- open off jumpdrive on Cahill Mac (login: ADPF Guest, pwd: hubb1eH0)
- view, rotate view, counterclockwise (now have pic positioned tall way)
- print --> page setup --> paper size --> 42x48
- page scaling - none (this is important - if you say fit to printable area it will try to scale
your height from 36 inches to 42 and print a larger poster!)
Print!
-------------------------------------------------A poster takes about 20 min. Costs is 10 dollars per foot for the satin photo paper.
A typical 4 foot poster costs 40 dollars!
If you need to change the roll find Patrick or follow the instructions - it's not too difficult.
If the computer does not seem to be sending the poster to the printer, find Patrick or Jose
- they can help solve these issues (is sometimes something simple such as the public print
queue for astronomy is paused).
