Development Department activities require high-level professionalism, systems thinking, best practices and careful planning, and adherence to CCR culture, values, mission, and operating principles. Position Summary: The Grant Writer will assist in all aspects of CCR’s institutional giving program, including preparation, review, and submission of required materials; research; administrative tasks; and stewardship; and will write and edit other materials to support CCR’s development efforts. Responsibilities: Research current and prospective institutional donors and grant opportunities, including investigating door-openers with staff and board, and make recommendations regarding same Draft, proofread, and submit required materials, including letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, and supporting attachments Keep colleagues apprised of relevant deadlines and reporting requirements, and liaise with them in timely fashion to gather information and documents required to complete submissions Conduct stewardship activities for institutional giving such as drafting and sending acknowledgment letters, invitations to CCR events, and updates; setting and confirming meetings; returning calls; and reaching out for information Keep institutional giving information management systems up-to-date and complete, including the foundation relations calendar of deadlines; electronic and hard copy files; and databases and other tracking mechanisms Work with Director of Development, Associate Director of Development, Senior Major Gifts Officer, and Donor Relations Associate, to create, edit, and proofread materials and information, including proposals and reports, for submission to major gift donors and prospects Prepare profiles in advance of meetings with foundation executives Attend assigned interdepartmental and strategy meetings Work with appropriate staff on processing grants received Assist in strategizing content of materials supporting CCR’s broader development efforts Other duties as assigned by Director of Development, Associate Director of Development and Foundations Relations Officer Qualifications: Five or more years of experience in grant writing for institutional giving, preferably in a high-volume environment. Experience writing about public interest law preferred. A belief in the mission of the Center for Constitutional Rights, demonstrated commitment to social justice issues, and comfort working in a progressive legal environment Familiarity with the issues central to CCR’s work and related experience with a legal organization or other non-profit is preferable but not required Superior writing skills including ability to translate technical legal work for a general audience Donor database experience required. Experience with CiviCRM a plus. Strong organizational and time management skills, including proven ability to plan and meet deadlines, efficiently manage multiple tasks and priorities under tight deadlines Excellent attention to detail and grace under pressure Strong problem-solving skills, including ability to anticipate problems and use judgment appropriately to plan solutions Excellent interpersonal, research and computer skills Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as member of a team Integrity and sense of humor Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and subject to union collective bargaining agreement. The current salary range for this position is $68,038 to $85,021 with a minor increase projected for the new fiscal year.
