It was first observed in 1984 by Gerry Durnell, founder of Pizza Today magazine. In 1987, National Pizza Month was designated by Congress. In recent years, Pizza Today teamed up with Karen Mullen Breast Cancer Foundation in the fight against Breast Cancer. Together they created “Slice of Hope”, which is a charity designed to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness through participating pizzerias across the country. October 11th has been named “Slice of Hope Day” in which pizzerias can choose to donate a portion of their sales to the Slice of Hope charity. Some of us like to start celebrating Halloween early!
