Millennium bim is the first bank in Mozambique
with the international certification PCI-DSS
Millennium bim is the first bank in Mozambique to receive one of the most important
certifications in the world, in the financial sector: the PCI-DSS certification (Payment Card
Industry Data Security Standard). Granted by Trustwave, an international company accredited
by the PCI SSC (Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council), this certification gives the
bank's Customers a greater protection of their assets by insuring all security measures
(physical, logical, process, work organization and segregation of duties) applied in the
processing, transmission and storage of all Millennium bim’s cards (debit and credit). At the
same time, it ensures a higher level of security for transactions made with cards, reducing
the risk of fraud, cloning and compromising Customer’s data.
As a result, Millennium bim consolidates its position in the market, joining the worldwide
group of certified PCI-DSS organizations operating with major card brands:
 Visa: In CEMEA/AP (Central Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific) there are 518
organizations registered as service providers, 135 are PCI-DSS Compliant, 88 are
financial institutions and only 15 are Africans. Millennium bim is currently the first
and only financial institution in Mozambique with this certification.
 Mastercard: In SAMEA (South Asia, Middle East, Africa) there are 51 organizations
registered as service providers of which 14 are African and, so far, there is no
financial institution to be part of this group. Millennium bim is now the first and
only financial institution to be part of this group.
The quality, knowledge and professionalism shown by the bank throughout the certification
process, lead the PCI SSC to invite Millennium bim to become a member, as a Participating
Organization, thus being the first Mozambican bank and the 4th African’s Institution to
belong to this exclusive group. The Committee comprises approximately 700 international
organizations, in all sectors, and aims to achieve and improve payment card security
worldwide, while embracing new developing technologies.
The PCI SSC is an open global forum, launched in 2006, that develops, maintains and manages
the PCI Security Standards and was founded by five major cards brands worldwide:
 American Express;
 Discover Financial Services;
 JCB International;
 MasterCard;
 and Visa Inc.
This organization aims at the production of technical security requirements to protect card
data and ensure greater control over the systems and networks that process, transmit and
store this information (PCI-DSS does not replace local or regional laws, government
regulations or other legal requirements).
Millennium bim maintains its position of market leader, offering products and services with
