Wilson Ave. The “Man’s Inhumanity to Man” committee of the City of Glendale will be hosting Poetry Night on April 19, 2017, in the City Hall Plaza in commemoration of victims who have endured hardship due to human rights’ violations, more specificially, victims of genocide, oppression, and slavery. The committee is accepting poetry and essay submissions from all Glendale Unified School District and Glendale Community College students. The committee will review those submissions and select ten readers for an evening of poetry that will commemorate lives lost due to opression, suffering, and the infrigiment on one’s own will. Poetry Night is one of many events taking place in the month of April in collaboration with a network of organizations, schools, city departments, and community agencies, in order to raise awareness of man’s inhumanity to man, the strength of the human spirit, and the hope of overcoming oppression and suffering. Guidelines All poems and essays must be typed and double spaced, and should be no longer than two pages. The topic of all submitted poetry should discuss the strength of the human spirit when facing oppression. The submission deadline is on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 5:00 pm. Readers whose submissions are accepted for reading at “Poetry Night” will be notified on April 6th.
