FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 9, 2013 Richard MacDonald’s The Ritual Selected by National Sculpture Society’s 80th Annual Awards Exhibition Monterey, California May 2013 - The Ritual, a bronze sculpture by Richard MacDonald, has been selected to be exhibited at the National Sculpture Society’s 80th Annual Awards Exhibition from May 18 – July 27, 2013 at Tampa Museum of Art in Tampa, Florida, and from August 17 – October 27, 2013 at Brookgreen Gardens in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. The exhibition will include the work of forty-six National Sculpture Society members – from classical to contemporary, with a variety of subject matter and media, representing the diverse styles, backgrounds and disciplines of its members. In The Ritual, a wave of energy moves up the linear column and erupts from the architectonic strata of time to express the sensual, rhythmic dance of creation. As an eternal expression of masculine and feminine energy, the figures symbolize the vibrational dance of ying and yang. Magnetically attracted, the polar opposites of male and female balance each other to create perfect harmony. Capturing a dance of uninhibited sensuality and joyful exuberance, Richard MacDonald offers The Ritual as a reminder to celebrate the moment by relaxing and allowing the life force to dance through us. Richard MacDonald Richard MacDonald emerged from a century that avoided the realistic depiction of the human form, by synthesizing modernist principles with the timeless human desire to understand ourselves. To paraphrase Picasso: there is no such thing as “abstract” art; everything starts from what is known. Richard MacDonald is one of the few post-modern figurative sculptors to go back to this essential truth, and create imaginative metaphors of the human psyche through representation of the body. Influenced by the expressiveness of the figures of Renaissance master Donatello, the emotional intensity of works by 19th century French sculptor Auguste Rodin, and the power of Michelangelo’s sculpture, MacDonald's inspirational, sensitive works are precisely of the moment, yet profoundly historic by reference. www.richardmacdonald.com The Art of Richard MacDonald presented by Cirque du Soleil Fine Art Gallery Richard MacDonald’s work can be viewed in Las Vegas at The Art of Richard MacDonald Fine Art Galleries located at Crystals in CityCenter and in the Bellagio “O” Theater Lobby.
