Van Gogh Programme Call 2017 - 2018 Are you interested in research cooperation with French researchers? Are you looking for means to help pay for the costs of visits to start up the cooperation? Then the Van Gogh Programme may be THE grant for you! The Van Gogh Programme promotes exchanges between researchers in projects focused on developing science in a specific field of expertise. These projects usually involve fundamental research where multinational teams use each other’s facilities, unique collections and research methods. All this travel can be costly. This is where the Van Gogh Programme can help out. “The travel grant stimulates a strong interaction between two research groups! Funding is available not just for applicants (professors), but also for PhD students and postdocs, all in one single application.” Who can apply? Application is open to excellent researchers with an outstanding tenure track and international exposure. You have to be employed by a Dutch research and knowledge centre that collaborates with French researchers (or would like to). Your French colleagues can apply for a travel grant from the French Van Gogh Programme to visit you (see www.campusfrance.org/fr/vangogh). An important prerequisite is that young researchers, especially PhD students and post doc students, actively participate in the project and exchange visits. Preference is given to innovative ways of research cooperation. “The relatively small amount of money is really effective in fostering collaboration. Thanks to short visits to each other’s laboratories researchers can build a joint research program. And joint supervision of PhD students really helps to work on the same research problem.” Conditions: • The donation is between € 1,500 and € 3,500 per research team per year. • The grants may only be used for travel and accommodation expenses. • Travel costs are covered up to a maximum of € 350 per person per return trip. • Accommodation costs are covered up to a maximum of € 110 per person per day. • The costs made by other members of the research team may also be covered. • EP-Nuffic pays the expenses of Dutch researchers travelling to France. “Altogether the results so far look very promising and it is expected that the joint efforts will result in at least two joint papers in renowned peer reviewed journals.” How to apply? Do you meet the criteria? Then visit www.wilweg.nl/vangoghprogramme for more details on the criteria and selection process and to download the application form. Selection Dutch and French experts in the field will review the applications submitted by the research teams. Only applications that have been positively reviewed by both the French and Dutch experts, will be taken into consideration for a travel grant. “The application procedure is clear and straightforward. It is a relatively easy way of obtaining some additional money to finance the start of a new collaboration.” Timeframe • Submission deadline for new applications: 15 June 2017 • Submission deadline for extensions: 30 September 2017 • Grant award date: December 2017 • Project starting date: January 2018 Vincent van Gogh Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh lived in France and was inspired to create many great pieces of art there. The Van Gogh Programme hopes to inspire French and Dutch researchers to work together to create great science! Spread the word!
