THE BLESSING WE RECEIVE
The blessing we experience in Christ Jesus is
proclaimed in Numbers as the special blessing
for the people of Israel. They and we are to be
blessed by the invocation of God's loving kindness, the shining glory of God's face turned toward us in love, not away from us in anger. We
are blessed by God's own peace!
Our wish and our hope are fulfilled in this blessing, which is made visible in the coming of Jesus. In Jesus, the image of the invisible God,
God's face is shown to us and God's presence is
made known to us in faithful and loving kindness.

"Octave" comes from the Latin
word for "eight," and since eight is
one step beyond seven, the number
of days in a week, it has long been
seen as a symbol of perfection,
completion, and new beginnings.
Early Christians called Sunday the
"eighth day," since it was the day
after the Sabbath and a day of resurrected life, the Lord's Day. By
the seventh century, people regarded the eight days after Easter Sunday as one great day, an octave,
one glorious feast when people
were forbidden to fast or kneel. In
the seventh century, Pentecost acquired an Octave, too. Christmas
didn't claim the honor of a continuous feast, but it did get an Octave
Day. January 1 is the oldest Marian feast, the Octave of Christmas.
It was originally a feast of the
motherhood of Mary, although for
centuries until 1969 it was called
the Feast of the Circumcision. Our
reformed calendar follows the earlier tradition of celebrating Mary as
Mother of God.

ANSWER TO OUR
PRAYER
There is lots of news from various
sources in these readings. Moses,
Paul, angels, shepherds, all have
some news about this child. But
there is no news from Mary. Mary
is silent and reflective. The shepherds' message is amazing, but she
had heard this message before and
her response then was to say yes.
Yes to the uncertainty, the unknown, the blessing. Her response
now is to reflect, keeping all these
things in her heart. She said yes
and now that yes is real in her infant son. She holds the fulfillment
of that earlier promise in her arms
and she is powerfully aware of
how small and vulnerable that
promise is. She knows that her son,
God's Son, is the answer to the
prayers of so many for so long, and
she knows how fragile that answer
is. Her son needs to be loved and
nurtured. As Mary knows and we
will learn, the answer to a prayer is
only the beginning.

Pro-Life Answers to False ProChoice Arguments (Part I)
The "fetus"-----human life or not?
As pro-lifers, we need to educate ourselves
and have answers to pro-choice arguments
and rhetoric. Over the next few weeks, we
will highlight the typical pro-choice claims
and we will arm you with good and accurate information to refute their misleading
and false arguments.
For many years, their most significant and
basic argument has been that the so-called
fetus is not a human life; it's just a simple
mass of tissue or part of the pregnant woman's body. They also claim that the question of when human life begins is uncertain
and a religious issue.
However, medical textbooks and scientific
reference works consistently agree that life
begins at conception, when a genetically
distinct individual is brought into existence. Some of the world's most prominent
scientists and physicians testified to a U.S.
Senate committee that human life begins at
conception. At these same hearings, proabortionists, though invited to do so, failed
to produce even a single expert witness
who would testify that life begins at any
point other than conception.
From the moment of conception, the unborn fetus is not simple, but very complex.
The newly fertilized egg contains a staggering amount of genetic information, sufficient to control the individual's growth and
development for an entire lifetime. The key
word is development. Like a toddler or
adolescent, the term fetus does not refer to
"non-humans", but to humans at a particular stage of development. It is scientifically
inaccurate and untrue to say a fetus is not
a human being simply because he or she is
at an earlier stage of development than an
infant.
Being inside something is not the same as
being part of something. The mother and
the unborn child are two separate individuals and half the time, they are not even the
same sex! The child has its own DNA,
fingerprints and blood type, distinct from
the mother's. The unborn child even takes
an active role in his or her own development, even controlling the course of the
pregnancy and the time of birth.

Have a blessed and successful New Year
2017
We have just celebrated the most wonderful, colorful, joyful, and inspiring feast of our faith and I have to
say that I am full of joy and gratitude. All because you made it to happen again, Christmas has now come and will
be gone pretty soon but what remains back is the sense of joy, memory and gratitude. I am grateful to many people
who made everything to happen. I would not want to mention any names in particular knowing the fact that I will
forget or miss someone. Like the Shepherds who said to one another after the angel appeared to them, “Let us go
over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” Yes, you have seen and witnessed everything that has happened in the Church and your families during Christmas.
A word of sincere gratitude to all those who generously contributed to the financial offering to the parish
during 2016. Your sacrifices and offerings are highly honored and appreciated. With sincere humbleness, I thank
all of our parishioners for your commitment to our parish this past year. The giving of your time, talent and treasure to the Lord continues to bear fruit for the Kingdom of God. Let us pray together that the Lord will expand
our sphere of influence for the gospel this coming year of 2017.
Walt Disney once said ‘You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful ideas in the world, but it requires
people to make the dream a reality’. You are that people. The reality is that the learning experiences and projects that
have taken place this year and will be taking place in years to come could not and cannot happen without a great
deal of commitment and support from all of you.
I am privileged each day to participate in your lives and the lives of our students. They bring me joy, laughter, peace and fulfillment everyday.
Let me close with a heartfelt prayer by A New Year's Prayer Rubel Shelly:
Why not pray your way into the New Year?
Holy God of Heaven and Earth, I know that a thousand years are as a day to you, but we humans are bound up in time. As a new
year is beginning, please teach me to ...
*care more about people and less about money,
*enjoy my work but not let it enslave me,
*and laugh more easily than I did last year.
As I get ready for 2017, help me to remember things that are easy to forget...
*that it might well be my last year,
*that some people are counting on me,
*and that you have things for me to do.
Lord, with the things I have accumulated over the years, please let me...
*shake off the monotony of life,
*try some new things in this New Year,
*and mend some broken fences.
And, Father of Mercies, please teach me in this new and unspoiled year to...
*lighten up and enjoy children, sunsets, reading, and long walks,
*avoid quarrels and work at being a peacemaker in this world,
*and start next year with fewer regrets than I bring to 2017.
I cannot know what this year will bring, and I am grateful for that! But help me...
May we live it for your glory!
Happy New Year!

TRADICIONES DE
NUESTRA FE
mejor posible. Por eso en el calendario
litúrgico este día es dedicado a María,
Madre de Dios.

Respuestas Pro-Vida a falsos argumentos Pro-Elección. (parte I)
Sobre el curso de las próximas semanas;
que testificaran que la vida inicia en cualquier otro punto que no sea la concepción;
