It is wonderful to see how settled the children are in their classrooms and routines. Many thanks to the PAC for organizing our
first Pizza Day and Family Bingo Night. I thoroughly enjoyed the Family Bingo Night. It was lovely to see so many families with
their children laying on the floor on mats laughing. As an added bonus, so many prizes were won by the children. No child was left empty-handed. Great fun! There will be other Family Bingo Nights – stay tuned. I also
want to take the opportunity to thank Mr. Corrado and Mrs. Cartwright for organizing a terrific Terry Fox
Run. The students' participation was incredible. Thank you parents and students for the toonies! Students
can continue to donate Toonies for Terry until Friday, October 7. On the school website, we will announce
our grand total. The Scholastic Book Fair was another successful event that helps continue to provide books
for our library with the profits. Thank you Mrs. Morris for organizing and parents for supporting!
With Thanksgiving Day approaching, it is a great time to reflect and to show gratitude. The staff of Raymer would like to thank
students for arriving on time, doing their best, and showing empathy towards others. We would also like to thank parents/
guardians for the support you provide at home. Last, but not least, we thank our volunteers for their generous gift of time to
our school and students.

Supervision
Student Medication At School
If you have a child with an allergy or health condition that requires
medication at school, contact the office to complete the required
medical forms.
Parents who have completed these forms in the past are asked to ensure
this paperwork is kept up-to-date.
IMPORTANT NOTE!
Parents, please ensure EPIPENS and all other meds have not expired. The school is
unable to administer expired Epi Pens and expired medications.
Head Lice
Head lice are easily spread, especially during hat and scarf
season. Parents are reminded that they should check their
children’s scalp and hair on a regular basis for head lice. To
help you, photos of headlice are available online at
www.hsph.harvard.edu/headlice.html
If you find nits or lice on your child’s head, you must notify the school immediately so
steps can be taken to contain and eliminate the spread of the lice. Children may

Stay Safe
We hold six fire drills per year: three

Parent Volunteers
Throughout the year we have many
school and classroom activities that
require the help of parents. We are so
thankful for such a supportive parent
community.
If you are able to help out in your
child’s classroom or at a school event,
please ensure you have completed a
Criminal Record Check form at the
school office prior to volunteering
(no charge). These forms take approximately three weeks to process,
and must be done every three years.

As parents/guardians, you pay a $10 fee for Cultural events provided by the Central

out the school calendar for times.
The Central Okanagan School District’s Appeals Process
The School District Appeals Policy states that, "A student or a parent of a student who is entitled to an educational program in School
District No. 23 may appeal a decision of an employee of the Board of Education which significantly affects the education, health or
safety of the student".
For a complete description of the Appeals Policy along with the recommended steps to follow in attempting to solve a problem,
please refer to Policy 460 – Appeals, that can be accessed from the ‘Policies’ link under the Board of Education heading on the School
District’s homepage – www.sd23.bc.ca.
The Central Okanagan School District’s Financial Hardship Clause
Within School District Policy 425 – Student Fees (see www.sd23.bc.ca), the Board of Education has indicated “that a student will not
be excluded from any educational program due to financial hardship”. This clause in the policy provides for the private and confidential consideration of financial circumstances of individual students and families, while preserving the dignity of families who may be
unable to pay.
