Job Description:
In order to facilitate and to maximise the impact of the humanitarian operations financed by the European
Union and of the EU civil protection activities coordinated by the European Commission in the Eastern
Neighbourhood and Middle East, the expert will be appointed to the post of humanitarian Technical Assistant
Regional Health sector expert by the European Commission’s Directorate General for European Civil Protection
and Humanitarian Aid Operations - ECHO.
The expert will be based in Amman, Jordan. He/she will be responsible for ECHO's operational activities in the
area of health care in humanitarian contexts.
She/he will be required to carry out regular missions to identify and assess humanitarian needs and to monitor
programmes in the countries of the region. At the request of ECHO Brussels, the expert may also be called
upon to carry out missions linked to her/his specific responsibilities to neighbouring countries or to Brussels,
and should be prepared to react to a current or evolving crisis in any other region in the world following a
request by DG ECHO Brussels.
Qualification requirements and assets:
ECHO general language requirements: mastering of at least 2 languages: English or French as first
language; French, English, Spanish, Arabic or Russian as second language.
Requirements:
For the present position, an excellent command of English is compulsory.
The candidate should have at least a total 10 years' experience in delivering humanitarian assistance and
have a minimum of 2 years' experience in primary health care.
Assets:
Experience in nutrition and/or refugee and resettlement situations will be considered an asset.
Experience in Eastern Neighbourhood and/or Middle East is a strong asset.
Knowledge of French and/or Arabic is an asset
