LITERACY All lessons will reinforce features associated with the various texts / genres studied. Chronological Recounts: Write chronological recounts relating to the Battle of Bosworth, Henry Viii and his wives and the Mary Rose. Letter Writing: Writing informal and formal letters; some written in the role of Tudor characters. The children write a letter to Mr Finch, the Head teacher, about our school. Dialogue and Plays: Understanding the features and layout of play scripts and writing and performing Tudor plays. Tudor Build up story: Writing historical stories using OBDE (Opening, Buildup, Dilemma and Ending) to help structure their work. Stories with a familiar setting: Exploring and writing an alternative ending to a story set in familiar surroundings. Use Drama to explore the feelings of different characters. GEOGRAPHY ART/DT The children discover who Sir Francis Drake was and map his travels around the world. The children study a range of Tudor portraits and study how to use proportion to draw an accurate portrait. Draw portraits of Henry and his wives. Observe and design repeating patterns taken from Tudor costumes. Complete a Tudor costume using collage. Children explore a range of artefacts which were recovered from the Mary Rose and discuss what they are, who would have used them and what for. Children explore cam action toys and how they work in order to design and make their own Tudor ships. Peer evaluation is used to assess their models. HISTORY Battle of Bosworth: Oral retelling/re-enactment of the main events of the battle. Henry Viii: Study and complete the Tudor family trees, focussing in more detail on why he chose to marry six times. Mary Rose: Researching the events leading up to the sinking of the Mary Rose and studying the artefacts that were recovered. The children will play the Tudor game five Men’s Morris which was discovered on the Mary Rose. Elizabeth I: The children study what sort of queen she was. Tudor Entertainment: The children research different types of entertainment, including the Globe theatre. Food and Drink: The children compare the diet of rich and poor Tudors and plan a banquet menu. PE / DANCE The children learn specific steps and later devise and perform a Tudor circular dance. Children explore elements of gymnastics including balances at different levels and linking moves in interesting ways. This culminates in the children practising and performing a paired routine to music. Working on invasion skills – in particular netball and footwork. Children play mini-games. PSHCE Children reflect upon their own behaviour both in and out of school through discussing New Year Resolutions. The children study and discuss healthy lifestyles and compare our lifestyle with that of a Tudor. We look at exercise, health and hygiene and that of the Tudors compared to that of today.
