Otay Ranch High School Responsibilities of Cheer Squad Members and Parents/Guardians Note Contract must be signed by the parent/guardian and the student prior to being allowed to try‐ out for the squad. Being a Cheerleader is different that other activities on campus, it is demanding and year‐long commitment. Financial Commitment 1. Uniform: There is a minimal expense to the cost of this sport. Due to diminishing financial support and non‐mandated cost, the district can only provide for 20 Varsity and 10 Junior Varsity uniforms. 2. Cost: The approximated cost for cheer will be for the tennis shoes, hair bows, socks, and under garments is about $100. We can not mandate the purchase of these items but strongly encourage it for the completion of the uniform. 3. Fundraising: In order to off set some of the cheer expenses, the cheerleaders will engage in multiple fundraisers throughout the year. Fundraisers are scheduled to assist with the expenses. We can not mandate fundraisers but hope for participants from students to parents to help with the minimal expense or other accessories the squad votes to purchase. All monies fundraised is deposited into the trust fund for the whole squad and can not be designated to any one cheerleader. Any financial assistance to the fund goes towards the whole squad as well. a. b. c. If a member is dismissed from the squad, the family remains responsible for the return of the uniform (ie skirt, top, and pom poms) or pay for any unreturned uniforms pieces. Any accessories purchases will remain at the ownership o f the cheerleader. Fundraising may take many forms, but in no way should it compete with the sponsoring of the ASB. Cheer Advisors and Coach 1. Advisor: The Cheer Advisors/Coach is Gretel Liana Rodriguez is a district employee and Brook Reynolds is a district cleared volunteer coach. Any issues that arise, that may or may not be covered in the contract will be resolved by the advisors. Student Initials __________ Parent Initials ___________ Uniforms 1. The advisor must approve all uniforms and equipment materials, before any item(s) are purchased. When dressing out for school, all members must wear what the coaches and advisors have decided. Variance will result in possible benching. 2. Squad members are responsible for the conditions of their own uniform. 3. Uniforms must be kept clean and in good condition at all times. 4. Squad members will be required to wear appropriate uniform to school at various times to show school pride and spirit. This will usually be on football and basketball game days or any other designated game. Eligibility 1. If a cheerleader has less than a 2.0 on any report card or progress report, they will be ineligible until the next report card. There are no exceptions. a. If a cheerleader cannot maintain their eligibility, then more time needs to be dedicated towards their academics. The cheerleader remains financially responsible for personal debts (uniforms, traveling, ect.) b. The most recent progress report card is required for tryouts and the June report card will determine eligibility to begin the cheer year (2012‐2013) Cheer Camp 1. Like any other sport camp, cheer camp teaches and models proper techniques and most importantly cheerleading safety. SUHSD Camp for 2012/13 is TBD. A squad member is not to leave early from practice without a parent/medical excuse. If she/he does leave early without parent permission, it will be counted as an unexcused absence. Competition 1.
