This brochure contains initial proposals to consider for our 125th Anniversary Capital Campaign. Please look over the proposals and the drawings. If you would like to see the drawings in larger format they will be on display at the back of church. We will be asking for your feedback via the parish survey during the month of October. St. Francis Xavier Parish Campaign Readiness Assessment - Informational Document for Discernment At several points in the Prophetic Planning document it references the need for repurposing space and building new space to accommodate the ministries and people served by St. Francis Xavier Parish. The recent Master Planning process dove further into these space desires and needs, generating the following possibilities for the parish to embrace and move forward in bringing to reality. All of the options for enhancements include a renovation and repurposing of our existing Joyce Hall and Gymnasium complex. This includes new ceiling, lighting and floor treatments as well as improvements to the stage in both facilities. The existing Joyce Hall kitchen will be updated to a clean, new “warming kitchen” more suitable for Parish purposes. In the case of the gym, a Taraflex floor is contemplated. This up-to-date flooring material will provide an excellent playing surface and will allow for more flexible use of the gym space for plays, Masses and large gatherings without the need to lay a protective tarp. A lift to the balcony as well as to the gym stage, safer electrical feeds for the drama program and light dimming controls are also contemplated. Also included in each of the options are two new offices in the lower level of the rectory, the renovation of a rectory bathroom, and minor modifications to the attached garage so that it can double up as a space for youth ministry and a point for Food Pantry distribution. Option A Renovation/repurposing of Joyce Hall and existing gymnasium; addition of offices in Rectory; multi-purpose gathering space connecting Church and Education Building; new core of bathrooms servicing Joyce Hall and repurposed gym; addition on the south-west side of the Education Building providing secure access to the Education Building and a new elevator. $4.75 MM Option A — Main Floor Plan Option A envisions a flexible, multi-use gathering space connecting the Church and the Education Building. (See Option D for details). In addition, new handicapped accessible bathrooms are contemplated in the basement and on the first floor, servicing the larger groups using the renovated Joyce Hall and repurposed gym/auditorium. An addition on the southwest side would provide secure access to the Education Building and an elevator servicing all floors. (No new classrooms are included in this option). A new playground with simple equipment for younger Parishioners would be situated to the east of the addition. Option A — Basement Floor Plan Option B Renovation/repurposing of Joyce Hall and existing gymnasium; addition of offices in Rectory; addition on the south side of the Education Building providing secure access to the Education Building, a new elevator, a new Media/ Information Room and 6 additional classrooms. $6.23 MM We envision that this addition would provide secure access to the Education Building, a new elevator accessing all floors , a media/information center and sufficient classrooms to consolidate East Campus grade-levels into our main Education Building. Such a consolidation would save the Parish approximately $100,000 in direct costs, mainly rent, annually. Option B — Main Floor Plan Configuration of the second and third floors of the new addition will be identical. Option B — Second & Third Floor Plan Option C — Main Floor Plan Option C Renovation/repurposing of Joyce Hall and existing gymnasium; addition of offices in the Rectory; multi-purpose (gathering space/fullsized gym) addition to the south of the existing Education Building; addition of new attached rectory garage. $3.55 MM We envision that this space would be used as additional gym space to accommodate the athletic programs of the Day School, Youth Ministry and Adult athletic programs. Contemplated as a multi-use facility with a Taraflex floor, the new space would be suitable for large gatherings. The facility would be accessible through a secure, vestibuled entry on the Waiola side. Handicapped access to this 5,380 square foot facility would be from the south lot. As the new gym would impede access to the current attached rectory garage, a new attached garage is needed. Option D Renovation/repurposing of Joyce Hall and existing gymnasium; addition of offices in Rectory, multi-purpose gathering space connecting Church and Education Building. $ 2.34 MM Option D — Main Floor Plan We envision that this flexible space between Church and the Education building would be used for gathering and fellowship after Masses, by small groups including Day School and Religious Education classes desiring a more intimate setting for liturgy, prayer or scripture study, by children during Mass for the Liturgy of the Word, by a bride and her attendants, by a grieving family for visitation immediately before a funeral or by our talented musicians for a small concert. It would also provide an enclosed connection to the Education Building where larger gatherings could take place in a renovated Joyce Hall or repurposed gym/ auditorium. This approximately 2,400 square foot addition would be designed to be handicapped accessible and in keeping with the architecture of our beautiful Church. Option D — Basement Floor Plan Our Commitment to the Archdiocesan Campaign, "To Teach Who Christ Is" The "To Teach Who Christ Is" campaign is being conducted at every parish in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Our maximum commitment is $909,000. This spring, we approached Cardinal George and asked that funds raised in this effort be allocated to specific projects so that parishioners would clearly see where dollars would be applied. We were granted our request and I share that all dollars raised in this effort will be applied as follows: $750,000 will be placed on deposit in a trust fund for St. Agatha Parish. It is anticipated that this amount would then generate $35,000 a year in scholarships for St. Agatha School. $159,000 will be directed toward Ascension-St. Susanna Parish in Harvey for its much needed capital projects. Existing Capital Needs in Our Parish In addition to the proposed new projects for the St. Francis Xavier campus, the parish has other items that would require funds beyond the regular operating budget in order to attend to them appropriately. The projects are as follows: Repair and preservation of stained glass windows $80,000 Organ completion Reserve for additional repairs and maintenance $90,000 $1,463,000 (Includes fire alarms, roof replacements for school rectory and sacristies/Church, masonry repairs and a provision for Mechanicals/HVAC/Plumbing) The information in this document is provided to parishioners and friends in hopes of offering information regarding parish needs and items to work toward our vision for the future. During the upcoming months, the parish will be engaged in a campaign readiness assessment to learn of your thoughts and feelings on all of the aforementioned areas. With the input of parish families through interviews, vision groups and a parish wide survey, all information gathered will be reviewed as decisions are made to move forward in pursuing a capital campaign and bringing these projects to fruition. THANK YOU Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of the options outlined in this brochure. Please watch for the survey of your opinions which will be available on-line and in the Church in the near future. Your collective wisdom is important as we move forward implementing this stage of our Prophetic Plan. Our Journey of Grace: Together We Can Make a Difference
