P4C LEVEL 2 TRAINING SCHEDULE
All P4C Level 2 participants will be required to
attend the P4C Symposium, so the Level 2
training will begin on Tuesday 7 June 2016 at
2.30 pm.
(Tuesday 7 – Friday 10 June 2016)
Tuesday 7 June (3 hours from 2.30 pm)
Unit 1. Recap use of community of inquiry in classrooms, as
discussed at the Symposium. (Led by Mr Emmanuel Skoutas)
Unit 2. Practice of a community of inquiry (A sharing session
led by Dr Janette Poulton. (Some teachers will be invited to
come prepared to show how they have taught P4C in their
classes maybe with a partner)
Wednesday 8 June (6 hours)
Unit 3. Matthew Lipman and his quest for thinking in
education. Review of Lipman’s published work and his debt in
P4C to John Dewey, George Herbert Mead and Lev Vygotsky
(Phil Cam).
Unit 4. Ethical theory, moral practice and character
development in P4C. Truth and falsehood in acquiring
knowledge (epistemology) in P4C. Also study of the
fundamental nature of all reality — what is it, why is it, and
how are we to understand it? (Metaphysics & P4C) (Phil Cam)
Unit 5. Philosophy and curriculum reform. Developing a
framework for an inquiry-driven school curriculum in
Singapore -- Role of philosophy and the development of
critical, creative and caring thinking skills in a revised
curriculum framework. See a proposed model in Figure 1
below (Emmanuel Skoutas).

English Language and Literature; Social Studies and History;
Science and Mathematics – My experience at Dandenong High

Unit 7. The practice of inquiry. Small-group sessions – to meet
in separate rooms.
Group A – to meet with Phil Cam
Group B - to meet with Janette Poulton
Group C – to meet with Emmanuel Skoutas
Friday 10 June (6 hours)
Unit 8. Selected Aspects of Eastern Philosophy, with special
reference to Contemporary Islamic Thought (Azhar Ibrahim)
Unit 9. Teaching P4C in Large Classes (Emmanuel Skoutas)
Unit 10. Use of Differentiated Methodology and Materials.
