Literacy
We are starting this half term with
the story ‘Rapunzel’ which is
linked to our topic ‘Towers,
Tunnels and Turrets.’
We will be looking at a variety of
different writing types, including
letters, newspaper reports,
character descriptions and then
writing our own version of the
story.
We will be looking at including
adjectives, alliteration, adverbs
and conjunctions in our writing.
Topic
Our topic is ‘Towers, Tunnels and
Turrets.’ We will be looking at a
variety of different castles from
different areas and ages. We will
also be looking at the different
materials that castles have been
built using.
Our Science will run through our
topic but we will be doing an
extra investigation about how to
build a strong bridge for the 3
billy goats gruff and then testing
our bridges.
Numeracy
We have started looking at the
properties of numbers. We have
found how many tens and ones
are in a number and then
partitioned 2 digit numbers. We
will also be completing addition
and subtraction of 2 digit
numbers.
As part of the new expectations
for Year 2 it is essential that the
children know their 2x, 5x and 10x
tables so please practise regularly
with your child.
Homework
Please use the list that we sent home as a guide of
possible activities that you could complete about
castles with your child. You can choose your own
activities to do also. Do not worry about sending in
something every week. We want you and your child
to enjoy the activities.
Your child will bring home their phoneme book each
week please practise these with your child and revisit
any previous sounds to consolidate.
A 2x, 5x and 10x table book has also been sent home.
Children now need to be practising times tables rather
than just counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Your child will be
rewarded with bronze, silver and gold throughout the
year.
EducationCity activities will also be set weekly.
Unfortunately EducationCity can not be accessed on a
tablet. Our other internet based program is
PurpleMash and you can access this from a laptop or
tablet. A link to this website will be made available on
our school website www.st-bernards.bolton.sch.uk
Reading books will be
changed each
Tuesday
Rewards include stickers,
raffle tickets, house
points, golden time
Computing
We will be spending this half term
looking at eSafety. The children
have their own individual logins
for EducationCity and PurpleMash
so please make sure you allow
them to practise logging in.

PE lessons a week. Mr
Cartwright will be completing
