What is Color Wheel - Color Wheel Studio

What is Color Wheel ?
Color Wheel is a children's art
studio offering pre-school, after
school and summer programs to
meet the child care needs of
Decatur's creative families.
At Color Wheel, we believe that
through the arts children can
explore individuality and develop
high self esteem. Working
individually and in collaboration
with other children, each child
learns to express and expand
his/her vision of the world.
Housed in a converted craftsman
bungalow on Church Street in
downtown Decatur, we offer a safe,
homelike environment in a
child-sized art studio. Here, each
Color Wheel kid becomes part of
a young artists community who
paint, sculpt, make pottery, play
music, perform theater and many
other exciting projects. This
community works and plays
together, watching each other
learn and grow into strong, free
thinking individuals.
The members of the Color Wheel
staff are trained artists as well
as child care professionals.
Each staff member brings to
Color Wheel a love for working
with children, unique artistic talent,
and a solid background in the child
care industry.

Clay Play
Getting messy and mucky, we’ll play with our clay. This week
we will learn basic and more advanced pottery techniques
while crafting clever clay creations.
Puppetry Playhouse
Making shadow puppets and creating sets, we will write a
script to perform a show.. learning this art form as we go.
In this great camp, we explore the world of puppetry arts.
Artists will learn about this fascinating art form’s history and
techniques as their inspiration.
Screen Scene
Graphic and modern, this cool art form should be part of every
young artist’s training. In this year’s screen printing camp, we
learn the process start to finish by creating prints, cards, shirts,
and more.
Girl Power Slumber Party
Bring your girl power and get ready for a fantastic week! For
young girls aged 7-12, this camp will provide an invaluable
experience both social and introspective. We will work to
enhance our sense of self confidence and self esteem. Through
art projects, jewelry design, games, karaoke and more we
celebrate ourselves in this moment and strengthen for the
years to come.
Drawing & Painting 101
This week is designed to provide a basics course for our young
Summer artists. We will teach introductory drawing/painting
techniques including line, form, proportion, value, texture and
perspective as well as introduce the tools of the trade.
Form & Function
In this great new industrial design camp, form will follow function
as we create household items with fantastic design elements.
Drawing inspiration from the great designers Eames, Miller and
Nelson we look at everyday objects with an artist’s eye.
Color Wheel Carnivale
Costumes, parades, festivities and fun! We are celebrating the
end of Summer with a week-long exploration of art created for
cultural parties around the world. From Day of the Dead body
puppets to Chinese New Year lanterns we learn, we create, we
celebrate.
