REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL DESCRIPTION
NineSigma, representing a global chemicals
manufacturer, seeks a technology to
synthesize a highly water-reactive arsenic
compound that can be hydrolyzed. Anticipated
proposals are from organizations that have
experience or knowledge about synthesis reaction
under water-prohibitive conditions. (Proposals at a
concept level are also welcome.)
Requirements for the anticipated technology
• Compounds to be synthesized:
○ Trivalent or pentavalent arsenic
compounds having the following
functional groups
 -OR (e.g., R’nAs(OR)3-n n=0~2)
 -NR2 (e.g., R’nAs(NR2)3-n n=0~2)
○ Arsenic compounds presumed to be
hydrolysable other than the compounds
listed above (functional groups are not
specified)
• Purity: 90% or more
Since the compound sought in this request is
highly unique, proposals that will likely enable
synthesis of arsenic compounds in principle are
widely welcomed, regardless of productivity.
(Proposals at a concept level are also welcome.)
OVERVIEW OF THE ANTICIPATED RESPONDENTS
• Organization that has a track record in the
synthesis or production of the target
compound
• Organization that has knowledge about the
following technologies and is willing to jointly
develop, with the client, a synthesis
technology of the target compound
○ Synthesis of inorganic and organic
arsenic compounds
○ Synthetic process that needs to be
performed under water-prohibitive
conditions
BACKGROUND
The client has been working on the development of
a hydrolysable arsenic compound. However, this
type of compound is very difficult to synthesize or
produce in a stable manner, because it is extremely
reactive with water, even with a small amount of
moisture present in the local environment.
Therefore, the client has issued this open request
in order to solve this problem and to quickly
establish a promising technology with an
organization having experience in synthetic
reaction under water-prohibitive conditions.

ANTICIPATED PROJECT PHASES OR PROJECT PLAN
Respondents should submit proposals using the
attached Response Template. The client will
review submitted proposals and possibly ask
clarifying questions before selecting the most
suitable candidates for collaboration. The client will
select the best candidate(s) through evaluations.
During the selection process, the client may
execute non-disclosure agreements (NDA) with
selected respondent(s), seek further information
disclosure, and discuss specific development
targets or potential opportunities.
The client will execute necessary agreement(s)
with the selected respondent(s) and move to the
project execution phase. Specifics of any
collaboration will be determined through
consultation with the concerned parties. The
assumed period would be 1 year for technology
development and 1-2 years for scale-up for mass
production.
Proposal Template. Supplemental files may be
submitted in addition to the proposal document.
