Arthropoda Project

BIOLOGY 11 ARTHROPODA POSTER PROJECT (APP)
Introduction
You are an animal biologist researching on a particular member of the Phylum
Arthropoda. Your lab peer, who was invited to go to a conference hosted by Nature
magazine, caught a touch of the flu. She cannot make it to the conference or provide the
appropriate poster necessary for the conference. You have been asked instead to take her
place and make a scientific poster to showcase your research. In the short time you have,
you’ve decided to simplify your research and the poster, to display mainly the basic
knowledge of arthropods and a brief description of the research you’ve done.
Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to…
★ Research outside of the textbook for more extended learning
★ Organize data and research materials with a visual aide
★ Dive deeper into learning a class of the Phylum Arthropoda
Researchable Topics
Arachnida
Diplopoda/
Chilopoda
Insecta
Crustacea
Spider
Centipedes
Butterfly
Shrimp
Ticks
Millipedes
Bees
Barnacles
Fleas
Beetles
Lobsters
Horseshoe Crabs
Mosquitoes
Crabs
Scorpions
Instructions
1. Pick a topic for your group’s poster from the list above
★ Research for a more specific topic (E.g. Spider ➝ Black Widow)
2. Make a poster and include the following:
a. Taxonomy classification
b. Structural diagram of your species (properly labeled)
c. Habitat & Behavior (e.g. lone wolf or pack wolf?)
d. Communication? (sometimes might be for mating. E.g. Dances)
e. The metamorphosis (lifecycle) of your species. (A picture is worth 1000 words)
f. A detailed description of how your species fit in the world. (Benefits and Harms!)
g. Theorize a QUESTION you may be interested in to research later in life. (Provide your
reasoning behind it: saying “because I find it interesting” is NOT good enough)
3. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE. Provide a bibliography of where you extracted your information (Min. 3
sources)
4. Due to time constraints, there will not be a presentation involved. On the day of your Arthropod test,
please hand in your posters.
