Teacher Appreciation Week
-Teacher Appreciation Week is
this week May 2-6, 2016. We have a great group of teachers here at Nelson and want to thank them for a
job well done! Please help us show them how much they mean to us!
Site Council Mtg.
-The last Nelson Site Council
Meeting for the year is this evening Wednesday, May 4, at 5:30 p.m.. This will
be in the Media Center. The agenda includes, but is not limited to assessment updates and
elections for next year. We will plan to see all of those involved with this important advisory
committee.
Field Day
-
This Friday, May 6, 2016 is the Nelson
Field Day! We look forward to another great day thanks to all the efforts of our Coach, Ms. Johnson.

Band & Orchestra Concert Information-The District 5th Grade Orchestra put
on a delightful concert yesterday evening and many were in attendance. As a reminder, The District 5th
Grade Band will be having a Concert on this Thursday, May 5, at 7:00 p.m. here at Nelson. Then, on
Tuesday, May 10 at 1:30 p.m., there will also be a school Band and Orchestra concert here in the gym.
Everyone is invited out to these programs and you can see how far our students have advanced.
School Nutrition Appreciation- We also appreciate all of the hard
work that goes into providing tasty and nutritious meals. In keeping with this, School Nutrition
Appreciation days are May 2-6. Please let our wonderful kitchen staff know how much they are
appreciated!
National Nurse Appreciation Day-We appreciate our school Nurse
Cathy Sanderson and all she does for our students. Wednesday, May 11is National Nurse Appreciation
Day. Please let her know how much she means to us here at Nelson.
“Kids Against Tobacco Day”-Fourth Graders will have a special “Kids Against
Tobacco” training day on Thursday, May 12, 2016. Thank Mrs. Means ahead of time for all the work that
goes into this.
End of the Year Awards-We like to recognize all of our students’ hard work in
many ways. One of the ways we recognize this is by the end of the year awards. Each grade level has a
special day and time set aside for students to receive special awards from this year. We will have these
celebrations in each pod out in the hall unless a Grade Level has made special plans with Mrs. Lee for the
Media Center. Please note the following schedule:
Pre-School-------Wednesday, May 11, 10:15 a.m. morning and 1:45 p.m. for afternoon
Kindergarten-----Friday, May 13, 11:30 a.m.
