I wander through each chartered street,
Near where the chartered Thames does flow.
And mark in every face I meet,
Marks of weakness, marks of woe.
In every cry of every Man,
In every Infants cry of fear,
In every voice, in every ban,
The mind-forged manacles I hear :
How the Chimney-sweeper’s cry
Every blackening Church appalls,
And the hapless soldier’s sigh
Runs in blood down palace walls
But most, through midnight streets I hear
How the youthful harlot’s curse
Blasts the new-born infant’s tear ,
And blights with plagues the marriage hearse.

Historical Approach
poem comes from the Songs of
Experience section and describes a journey
around the capital, showing the terrible
conditions faced by the inhabitans of the
city. Child labour, restrictive laws of
property and prostitutions are explored.
This
Stanza 1
I wander through each chartered street,
Aku berjalan melalui setiap jalan carteran,
Near where the chartered Thames does flow.
Dekat tempat carteran Thames yang mengalir.
And mark in every face I meet,
Dan tanda di setiap wajah yang saya temui,
Marks of weakness, marks of woe.
Tanda kelemahan, tanda duka
Stanza 2
In every cry of every Man,
Dalam tangisan setiap orang,
In every Infants cry of fear,
Dalam tangis ketakutan setiap bayi,
In every voice, in every ban,
Dalam setiap suara, setiap larangan,
The mind-forged manacles I hear:
Pikiran yang tertempa belenggu saya dengar:
Stanza 3
How the Chimney-sweeper’s cry
Bagaimana penyapu cerobong itu menangis
Every blackening Church appalls,
Setiap gereja menghitam mengerikan,
And the hapless soldier’s sigh
Dan desahan prajurit malang itu
Runs in blood down palace walls
Berjalan dalam darah menuruni dinding istana
Stanza 4
But most, through midnight streets I hear
Tapi sebagian besar, saya mendengar melalui
jalan-jalan tengah malam
How the youthful harlot’s curse
Bagaimana kutukan pelacur muda itu
Blasts the new-born infant’s tear,
Ledakan air mata bayi baru lahir
And blights with plagues the marriage hearse.
Dan kutukan dengan malapetaka kehancuran
