Enecsys Micro-Inverters I n s t a l l a t i o n H i n t s UK * A – Monitoring Setup B – Gateway and Repeater C – Inverters and Roof Connections D – Electrical Connections 1 NOTE TO NEW INSTALLERS: BEFORE STARTING 1st INSTALLATION ENROL FOR INDUCTION & GET INSTALLER MONITORING LOGIN; email: [email protected] Before connecting PV modules to the micro-inverters, power up gateway, and connect it (via ethernet cable provided) to router. Ensure there is a spare ethernet port on the router. Ensure that PV modules used are compatible with the micro-inverters used! Check Compatibility List. Always connect PV system on its own dedicated 30mAmp RCD/RCBO. Otherwise, RCD risks tripping. 2 Set up the monitoring BEFORE installation – you can then check if installation is working properly while still onsite. Ensure that the gateway has a smiley face, if not, check which of the icons in the bottom left corner has a cross, to locate problem. Each micro-inverter has to be mounted with the round white plastic disc pointing down into loft. Max 16 micro-inverters per 30mAmp RCD/RCBO. 3 Make a MAP of the install with inverter positioning, and ensure the inverters full serial numbers are entered correctly in accordance with their physical position. Run a communication check by connecting repeater in same room as gateway. A “1” should show on gateway in ~2 min. If ok, reposition repeater to the loft/1st floor and check again if “1” shows. Connect extension cables to distribution units making sure the grey pins are in the male connectors, and a “click” is heard. A/C local double pole isolator is still required possible in loft position. 4 The “Installation Name” is what is shown on monitoring. Do not use precise address as name. Agree name with customer. Make sure customer details are accurate. As soon as PV modules are connected to micro-inverters (only DC power is needed), these start communicating and should appear on gateway which starts counting them each every ~2 min. Long fixing screws (12mm+) maybe required for fixing inverters to the mounting rail system. Screws should be 8mm diameter. When large number of inverters are installed, split AC bus to spread current for better harvest. This requires 1 extra distribution unit and end cap. 5 Make the panels as large as possible for easy viewing. When labelling panels, preferably use the last 3 numbers of the inverter serial number. Print screen; can be used for install. Gateway counts all of the micro-inverters AND the repeaters. So, if there are 9 micro-inverters and 1 repeater, gateway should show 10. If not, check roof connections as number on gateway must match. Max number of inverters per gateway = 40 The micro-inverters need to be placed behind the panels & not touching the panels or the junction box, with >1cm gap between the inverter and the panel. High voltage tests - 1000V Insulation resistance tests - to be carried out without inverters connected. 500V MAX if inverters connected. 6 Once all data in the monitoring is complete, press “Launch installation”. As soon as physical install is complete and inverters start reporting, system can be seen on monitoring. To check signal strength put gateway in installer mode: press into hole on the side for 5 secs with safety pin- display will flash. After check, always put back into normal mode by pressing into hole again. -1 extension cable for 2 inverters. -1 distribution unit for 2 inverters. 3 possible if total number of micro-inverters is odd. A/C test procedures to be carried out in accordance with BS7671 at the furthest point which will be at the end of the extension cabling to verify cabling. 7 To see monitoring of installation, log in and choose “customer view” and pick the new installation from the list. Check on “system view” if all inverters are showing >0W. When on installer mode check for a “√”. A “X” or “?” means the signal strength is not strong. Move/add repeaters until you get a “√”. -Max 16 X SMI-200 per AC branch. -Max 13 X SMI-240 per AC branch. -1 AC grid connect cable per AC branch. No high voltage string testing is required. 8 Do not remove scaffolding until monitoring is set up in case roof system is not connected properly, requiring roof access. Some installations may need more than one repeater depending on the distance/obstruction between the gateway and the micro-inverters. Always take spare extension cables, distribution units, and end caps. 9 DPA (Data Protection Act) Form needs to be signed by customer otherwise Enecsys cannot release customer login details. If the house has aluminium foil insulation a double repeater with a fixed antennae and its antennae cable form may need to be installed on roof. Distribution unit and extension cable to be securely fixed to railing system. Ensure all cabling is dry when installing. Monitoring will only work properly if there is full connection: inverters-gateway-router-internet. No distribution unit or cable should be left with open ends. Put end caps to any opening. Risk of RCD tripping otherwise. 10 Enecsys Ltd.
