Bank balance $7,154.43. Fly in event broke even.
Craig Telleson’s photos of the fly in were
presented by Andy Boyer on the projector
screen.
10:27 am New business: Glenn Frehafer donated a
new picture book to the Club Library from
the Red Bull Hangar 7 he visited in Salzburg
Austria recently. Also mentioned that one of
the visitors to the fly in was from the Perris
Ultra light Club who observed that on the
spot landing competition they would disqual
ify those who landed short of the line, and for
the torpedo run they would set up pins and
count the pins knocked down. Highest count
would win.
Membership appreciation shown by applause
for Pete Sigrist’s efforts to co- ordinate the
Fly In activities.
Dean Ganzer updated the membership on
the meeting with the Mayor’s office.
Feed back from the city is that water quality
is the city water departments main concern.
There is a meeting with the Mayor’s office
and city water department scheduled for this
coming Friday September 11, 2015. There
will be a meeting of the save S.D.U.A. com
mittee after the general meeting adjourns.
There was some discussion of strategy with
Buzz Fink by several individuals. Buzz said
unequivocally that he supports S.D.U.A. and
our presence at Nichols Field.
CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR 2015
We are in the airshow season so if you hear of an
event, don’t just assume I will post it here. Send me
an e-mail and I will be sure that it does get on the list
for ALL the members to be aware. Let’s see if we
can get some fly-outs going this year and let the
wind blow the dust off those wings. Due to limited
space in this column, I strongly urge anyone planning to attend one of these events to go to the website for more complete details such as times, schedules, NOTAMS, frequencies, accommodations, pricing, etc.

Clouds
Clouds are classified by their appearance and height.
A high cloud group above 20,00 feet is prefixed by cirro, which
means curls of hair in Latin. Usually signify good weather if winds
are from W NW to N keep your eye open when they move in from
other directions.
Mid level clouds from 6,500 to 20,00 feet are given the prefix
Alto, meaning height. Can be the bearers of precipitation.
A low level cloud group from ground level (we call that fog) to
6,500 feet has no prefix, but precipitation is likely.
Vertical development clouds. Cumulus means heap or pile. A
few cottonballs can be fair weather cumulus, but once vertical development starts, get out the umbrellas. Stratus means layers and designates appearance—- nimbus in a cloud type means rain.

has excluded ultra lights from Nichols Field in their lease with Buzz. We have had 2
meetings with the mayors office. On the second meeting the mayor expressed solidarity
with the water department. Said that they are charged the responsibility to protect the
reservoir and watershed from any potential pollution. None of our rebuttals were ac
cepted. Now we are going to elevate the matter to the city council. Turn over of the po
dium to Larry Faast.

A cartoonist was found dead

Details are sketchy.
Did you hear about
the cross-eyed
teacher who lost her
job because she couldn't control her pupils?
By jerry adams
The solo student pilot was performing
a touch-and-go landing and touched
down too far down the runway at the
airport in Tomball, Texas.
He trimmed the Cessna 172R, raised
the flaps, and advanced the throttle
for takeoff.
He became unsure of the runway distance remaining, so he reduced the
throttle to idle and applied the brakes
to abort the takeoff.
The brakes locked up several times
while he kept the plane on the runway
centerline.
Realizing it was not slowing enough,
he lowered the flaps to 30° and
pushed forward on the control yoke to
add drag and decrease lift. The plane
slowed, but not enough to stop it from
going off the end of the runway and
hitting trees.
The NTSB determined the probable
cause as the delay in aborting the
takeoff, which resulted in the airplane
going off the end of the runway and
hitting trees.
