Immunisation Team Edward Jenner Court Gloucester Business Park Brockworth Gloucester GL3 4AW Dear Sir/Madam Vaccination Reminder Measles, mumps and rubella are highly infectious conditions that can have serious, and potentially fatal, complications. There is currently an outbreak of Measles within England amongst older children. The MMR vaccine is a safe and effective combined vaccine that protects against these three separate illnesses – measles, mumps and rubella (German measles) – in a single injection. The full course of MMR vaccination requires two doses. The first dose of the MMR vaccine is offered to all babies at one year old. A second dose of MMR vaccine is offered before they start school. Some children who have only had one dose of MMR vaccine may not be fully protected against measles, mumps and rubella. Children up to the age of 18 who missed, or only partially completed their earlier MMR vaccinations can have a "catch-up" MMR vaccination on the NHS. Young people who have missed their MMR vaccination as children are vulnerable. If you know or suspect your child hasn't been fully immunised, you can arrange with your GP for them to have a catch-up MMR vaccination.
