Rounder on the palate, with more intensity than the Saint-Vincent. Jammy, still very smoky; herbal with minerals and pine forest components. Racy acid on the finish. 16.5/20 2007 SANTENAY TERRE D’ENFANCE 100% from 60 year-old vines. Deep color. Red fruits on the nose, more ripe than the previous wines. Earthy, soil components and toasty peanuts on the nose. Thick, dark chocolate on the palate, has quite a kick. Very raisined smoke notes. Rustic, no tannins, but lots of acid. A lush mid-palate. Coffee and tobacco on the finish. 17/20 2007 SANTENAY PREMIER CRU LA MALADIÈRE Deep in color. A milk chocolate nose and tobacco on the palate. More classy than the villages Santenay. Firm acidity, juicy, smoky, high acids. Red licorice and other citric components, burnt orange on the mid-palate. Finishes with a rustic Santenay character. 17.2/20 2007 SANTENAY PREMIER CRU LA COMME Deep color. Milk chocolate and black licorice on the nose, ripe and roasted. On the palate, juicy, fairly concentrated, succulent. Some tiny tannins but more acid than tannic. Less round than the Maladière, but a little classier. A juicy, strawberry jam finish. 17.4/20 2007 SANTENAY PREMIER CRU LES GRAVIÈRES VIEILLES VIGNES Deep color like all the others. Burnt toast on the nose, vegetal. Candied strawberry fruit, velvet tannins and very racy milk chocolate acids that freshen up the wine. Meaty on the mid-palate, peanut oil, a little salty, a smokehouse peanut finish. 17.6/20 2007 SAVIGNY-LES-BEAUNE PREMIER CRU LES VERGELESSES A little less dark in color than the Gravières. Milk chocolate on the nose; very perfumed, with more oak than the previous wines and some vanilla bean as well. On the palate, less intense than the Gravières, more juicy but less compact. Strawberry candy, red licorice, easy – no tannins – but lively acids on the finish. 17.5/20 2007 MONTHELIE PREMIER CRU LES RIOTTES 375 cases. 40 year-old vines. One source. Typical black color, even darker than the others. A ripe nose of candied licorice, floral, very elegant. A little bit of tar. On the palate, more oak elements with a lacy texture, all in finesse. Dark chocolate, quite fine meaty raisined fruit on the finish. 17.9/20 2007 CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET PREMIER CRU CLOS SAINT JEAN A little lighter in color than the other wines. A roasted coffee tobacco nose. A good amount of oak, spicy forest elements on the nose. On the palate, some vegetal, high acid elements – more acid than fruit for the moment. Very coffee-like with milk, milk chocolate, malted milk on the finish. 17.5/20 2007 VOLNAY VIEILLES VIGNES A rustic nose of earth and forest, cracked pepper and a bit of raisined fruit. On the palate, smoke and more raisins, chocolatecovered Milk Duds. Floral, minty and black chocolate flavors. Nice persistent acidity and a smoky, oaky toasted finish. 17.8/20 2007 VOLNAY PREMIER CRU LES SANTENOTS Black in color. An oaky nose with coffee and tobacco. On the palate, rich and dense, quite oaky but with adequate fruit to balance. Black licorice and cherry candy; big, intense, dense fruit. Black chocolate and smoke on the finish. 18.2/20 2007 BEAUNE PREMIER CRU LES BRESSANDES VIEILLES VIGNES Good color. Egg custard on the nose, along with milk chocolate and candy, too. A classy nose of chocolate-covered raisins. Some vegetal elements on the palate. Very smoky, rustic, lacks a mid-palate and has a slight bitterness. Minty, some salt and pepper. More tannin than all the other wines. A mineral finish. 17.5/20 2007 POMMARD PREMIER CRU LES GRANDS EPENOTS VIEILLES VIGNES A powerful, rustic nose of forest floor; oaky, roasted leather aromas. On the palate the fruit is very ripe, full-bodied and creamy with lots of oak but plenty of rich fruit to balance. Very long, powerful and lush with lingering acids and no tannins, but power and finesse. Very Pinot, a classy finish. 18.3/20 2007 CORTON PERRIÈRES GRAND CRU Deep in color, more crimson than purple. The ripest nose so far, also the oakiest; charred leather and very raisined. On the palate, very Corton – black cherry, meaty, velvet-textured, round. Very viscous, oily and quite oaky. Strong acids. Black cherry sourball candy with high acids on the finish. 18.2/20 2007 CORTON BRESSANDES GRAND CRU Dense color. A very oaky, toasted nose, along with peanut brittle. The palate shows coffee and smoky tobacco. Round, quite rich, sweet and candied chocolate-covered candy – Raisinettes. Dense, with coffee and chocolate. Lively acidity, raisined and quite oaky on the finish. 18.1/20 2007 CORTON RENARDES GRAND CRU Deep in color, but not purple. A foxy, classy nose, with tobacco and coffee, too. Leafy, very floral. Quite powerful, the richest of the three Corton wines. Milk chocolate, menthol and black cherry. Powerful and classy, lots of cherry syrup on the finish. 18.4/20 2007 GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN PREMIER CRU LAVAUX ST. JACQUES 150 cases, one purchase. 55 year-old vines. Black in color with crimson edges. Very, very oaky, with rustic elements. Quite acidic on the palate along with candied lemon and 2007 GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN burnt orange. More tannin than with the VIEILLES VIGNES Cazetières. Opulent and floral, some peach Light in color compared to the domaine’s character. Very lively acidity, sweet and sour other wines, nice class though. Burnt cream, fruit punch; black licorice and lots of tobacco lots of creamed coffee. On the palate, some and licorice on the finish. 18.6/20 raisin bran, tea leaves and burnt cream. Elegant. Pure Pinot, too. On the VIEILLES VIGNES palate, lots of oak, lots of thick silky texture. Less expressive on the nose than the Ripe, fairly tannic fruit, but the tannins melt Chambolle. Black licorice. On the palate, less massive than the Echèzeaux, but has more class. Liquid Pinot paste, very, very extracted. Lots of oak but all in finesse, very classy, very fresh with black licorice on the finish. 18.9/20 2007 CHAMBERTIN-CLOS DE BÈZE GRAND CRU The deepest color in the cellar. Spicy peanut butter nose. On the palate long, long, smoked toasted candied fruit. Very acid and powerful. Extremely long licorice flavors, tobacco too. Very refined and intense with ginger, allspice and rock salt.
