l o o h c S ’s e n n A t S Spring Term Newsletter February 2014 St Anne’s Choir Sings at the O2 On the 28th January 2014, the prep choir travelled to the O2 in London to take part in the Young Voices concert. We had been practising the songs and dances for months. When we arrived I couldn’t believe how massive it was and I got really excited. There were over 7,000 children there all ready to sing. We rehearsed all afternoon and soon it was time for the big show. It was magical singing with all those children and accompanying Stacey Soloman performing her latest release. We were all given small torches and so the whole arena was lit up by what looked like thousands of stars. I will never forget this wonderful experience. By Molly Butterworth, Year V This event took a tremendous amount of organising and our thanks go to Mrs Couch for her excellent efforts—it really was a fabulous outing and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who took part. Mrs Pirrie In January, Year 4 pupils had the opportunity to learn about what Chelmsford was like in Tudor times during a visit to Oaklands Museum. We studied a map and picture of the High Street in the 1500s and were allowed to handle some genuine Tudor artefacts. We also learnt about the Friary which had been an important building in Chelmsford before it was destroyed during the dissolution of the monasteries. The children seemed most fascinated by the punishments given to naughty Tudors and Sam and Amisha were happy to volunteer to have (pretend) fruit thrown at them whilst they were in the stocks. It was great fun. First we went into a Victorian classroom and did the same lessons as Victorian children. The teacher was strict. After that we looked at some Victorian objects. There were some interesting things, such as a mouse trap. After lunch we looked round the museum in groups. Anna Gigov Year V Year II Electricity Morning We made circuits to get Mr Gringling’s lunch to the top of the lighthouse. We also made static electricity using a balloon. Our mummies and daddies loved it. We got to show them everything we have learnt in science this half term. Mrs Mysercough & Year II Oaklands Museum On Friday 7th February we went to a Roman day at Oaklands Museum. First we learnt about how Romans lived, after that we went on five tables and tere were different things to do. My favourite table was where we had a tray of stones and we had to dig out Roman things like chicken bones and money and then sort them into two groups. We also made Roman mosaics with little sticky pads, we had to practise first by colouring mosaics. It was a lot of fun. Last of all we made Roman soldier finger puppets. When we had finished all the activities we had to go back to school. What an amazing day! Hannah Newbrook, Year III Kindergarten I celebrated Chinese New Year by making hats and lanterns. Mrs Baker Congratulations to the following children who have won Effort Cups for this half term – February 2014: Kindergarten 2 Lilia Evans Year 1 George Railton & Isaac Gardner Year 2 Alice White & Henry Mitchell Year 3 Harriet Philp-Edwards & Morounfolu Osilaja Year 4 Nehal Jain & Ajai Sanghera Year 5 Anna Gigov Year 6 Ciara Hartley & Imogen Brooks Quiz Club The Quiz Club Area Heat is an exciting and nerve-racking experience, children in years 3-6 from all Independent schools in England can take part.
