Students are working hard with partners to research movements. They will complete
research this week and will begin preparing their presentation boards next week. Our
museum will include display boards, artifacts, and primary documents, as well as maps,
photos, information, and timelines. This is another big project, and students should continue
to show commitment and effort – most are doing a great job! We are learning about the
climates of movements – social, economic, political, etc.- and how these impacted society
of that particular time. We will be presenting our research at the Movement Museum
on May 22 n d at 1:30 in the cafet eria. Mark your calendar!
We have also begun our final mentor text, Call it Courage, by Armstrong Sperry. This tale
of adventure follows the hero’s journey of Mafatu. Students enjoyed learning about the
Hero’s Journey using familiar characters from “The Lion King” and “Finding Nemo” as
examples. We have created group definitions of what a hero is, and have had some great
discussions! We will be discussing courage and necessary life skills for survival.
Math: We are working with algebraic expressions and finding rate. We will be problem
solving and reviewing concepts.
End of year assessments including Fountas and Pinnell reading assessments, Words Their
Way assessments, and end of year math tests are ongoing.

Safety Patrol for next year
Students have the opportunity to be
on Safety Patrol next year. Mr.
Cormack would like to begin
training students next week. A
letter went home with interested
students. As this is a leadership
position, grades, behavior, and
commitment to tasks will be taken
into account when choosing patrol
members. The signed letter is
required for consideration.1
