Zoo-All-Oh-Gee
Zoology is the branch of biology (by-alloh-gee) that specifically studies animals.
Zoologists (zoo-all-oh-jists), the experts in
zoology, spend long periods of time observing
animals in far off places, and in laboratories.
Zoologists are concerned with where animals
live, what they eat, and other aspects of their
daily lives.
As a profession, zoologists can find themselves
working in many different fields, like wildlife
rehabilitation, ecology (eek-all-oh-gee),
journalism, and even universities. Most people
who study zoology have a love and passion
for animals, which leads them to want to
understand more about the creatures they
love and share that understanding with others.
Happy Habitats
A habitat is the area where an animal lives. Habitats can exist in any size; they can be as
big as the world’s oceans or as small as a log on the forest floor. Many animals have special
adaptations or skills that allow them to make the most of the food, water, and shelter types
of their habitat.
Draw a line connecting each animal with its habitat. Hint: Many animals are food driven.
If you can’t place the animal in its habitat, think about where to find what it eats.

Tiger Tracks
Spotting a tiger in a zoo is easy, but zoologists
have a hard time locating tigers in their
natural habitat. A tiger’s unique black and
orange striping is a special adaptation that
acts as camouflage in the dense forests
where they live. One way to find a tiger is by
looking for the tracks left in the soil by their
enormous and powerful paws.
Here’s what you’ll need:
• A large bowl
• A wooden spoon
• A baking sheet
With your parent’s help, you can make your own tiger tracks with a few
simple ingredients.
• 2 Sticks of butter,
softened to room
temperature
Directions
• 2 cups of flour
1. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, stir together the butter,
powdered sugar, and the vanilla or almond extract (optional) until well
combined.
• ½ cup of powdered sugar
• ¼ teaspoon of vanilla or
almond extract (optional)
2.Add in the flour, being careful not to over stir.
3.Using your hands, form the dough into 1 inch balls. If you are using
sprinkles or colored sugars to decorate, place the sprinkles or sugars into
a small bowl and gently roll the balls to coat. Place the balls on a baking
sheet. With one hand, pinch your thumb, index, tall, and ring fingers
together, then gently indent the balls of dough with the tips of your
pinched fingers leaving a small tiger track.
• Sprinkles or colored sugar
for decorating (optional)
4.Bake the tiger tracks in a 350 degree oven for about 10-15 minutes until
slightly golden in color. Let them cool, then enjoy with friends.
