LEAF AND YARD WASTE DIVERSION WHAT IS IT? The City of Barrie provides a curbside collection program for leaf and yard waste. WEEKLY January April May June September October November BI-WEEKLY (A/B Week Collection) July August December NO COLLECTION February March Check your Community Information and Waste Reduction Calendar or call 705-739-4219 to determine what your regularly scheduled collection day is and what week (Week A or Week B) your area is for the bi-weekly collection months. Regular leaf and yard waste collection will occur on Remembrance Day, Easter Monday and Boxing Day. If there are changes to the collection schedule, notice of the changes will be posted on our website at www.barrie.ca one week prior to the holiday. These changes are also shown in your Community Information and Waste Reduction Calendar. Due to the large volumes of leaves in the fall, yard waste collection could run behind schedule. Please leave your yard waste out if it is not collected on your regular scheduled day. CAN MY LEAF AND YARD WASTE BE TAKEN SOMEWHERE IF I DO NOT PUT IT OUT FOR CURBSIDE COLLECTION? Residents may bring leaf and yard waste to the Barrie Landfill. To find out the fee for yard waste call 705-739-4219. Leaf and yard waste must be generated from a Barrie residence and proof of residency must be shown. If the materials are packaged in plastic bags, the bags must be removed from the yard waste. Branches in excess of 4” in diameter will be charged the regular user rate for waste. The Landfill Site is located at 272 Ferndale Dr. N. and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. WHAT HAPPENS TO THE LEAF AND YARD WASTE THAT IS COLLECTED? The curbside leaf and yard waste collected is brought to a designated area in Barrie’s Landfill Site for composting. The materials are put into windrows, then turned and monitored daily. The compost is eventually screened and tested to ensure that it meets the Ministry of the Environment standards and then sold to Barrie residents. Call 705-739-4219 or visit our website for fees.
