Running & Scoring Swiss Pairs Session with EBUScore
Action in advance: - The movement is simpler if you ensure before the event starts that
you have only full table numbers i.e. an equal number of pairs are available to play (a
spare pair required, plus a host if players without a partner are accommodated). Sufficient
full sets of boards of the same deal will be required for circulation during the rounds, with
a minimum of 2 boards per table (e.g. playing our normal 5 x 5 board rounds – 5 tables = 2
sets; 6 – 7 tables = 3 sets; 8- 10 tables = 4 sets; 11-12 tables = 5 sets; etc).
1. For a simple evening Swiss Pairs session, you may allow the pairs to sit as they wish on
arrival but it is better to draw for starting positions.
2. Set out the tables sequentially numbered around the room with slips showing the pair
starting numbers.
3. When you start the Swiss Pairs Scorer you initially see an EBU screen, then the Main Menu: -
It is assumed with these instructions that directors/scorers who run a Swiss Pairs event
will be experienced in the use of the EBUScore Pairs Scorer software, and therefore will
understand how to use screens and displays common to the scoring of duplicate pairs
events.
4. Click “Swiss Pairs Events” to start scoring the session, and the Event History window opens.

6. For a new event, the event information window opens with 2 tabs along the top that may be
selected to enter information: a. ‘Club/Event Details’ – click ‘Restore Club Defaults’, enter director and scorer names
and set ‘EBU P2P’ as “10 Normal Club Session”.
Import the hand records by clicking the “Import Deal” button and follow the
procedure used in the scoring of a Pairs duplicate session.
b. ‘Movement Details’ – see section 7 below.
c. Note that three buttons at the bottom are greyed out and not available at this stage.
The buttons become available after section 7
