Dear Competitor,
Welcome to Borders and Bridges Sprint Triathlon 2015.
Enclosed is all the information you should need for the race to help shorten the race briefing so you
can focus on getting ready for your race start.

Parking is available on Tweedbank Retail Park which is adjacent to the venue.
(There is limited parking available at the Swan Centre, however exit is restricted until 11.00. First
come, first served)
You will be directed to the parking area by marshals.
Please only park in the area of the car park as directed by the marshals.
Please note that the Swan Centre Café will be open early and throughout the morning until after
the race for coffees and bacon rolls.
REGISTRATION + RACE BRIEFING
Registration will be held in the Swan Centre Bowling hall to the right of reception from 07.10.
If you are a BTA member and have indicated so on your entry form, please show your race licence at
registration.
At registration you will be given the following:
1. Bike number sticker – please stick this on your bike. Your bike number must be clearly
visible on taking your bike in and out of transition before and after the race.
2. Helmet number sticker – please stick this to your helmet and for efficiency put your helmet
on as you enter transition for bike racking pre-race.
3. Two race numbers – your race number must be displayed on the front for the run and to
the rear for the bike. Only one number need be used if you have a race belt. You will also
have your race number written on your body. You will be issued with 8 safety pins.
4. Timing chip – this will be a chip attached to a Velcro band which will fit around your left
ankle.
5. Swim hat – this will be one of 5 colours and will indicate the swim order.
Proceed to transition to rack your bike.
There will be marshals on hand to offer advice and guidance for the less experienced competitors.
Please attend the race briefing at 08.20 in the bowling hall. All competitors must attend this
compulsory briefing. Competitors will be given important safety information and told of any last
minute changes during this briefing.
TRANSITION INSTRUCTIONS
Transition will be closed for the duration of the Race briefing!
You will need to show that your race number matches your bike number to gain entry to transition.
IMPORTANT: ensure both bar ends have stoppers in them. This will be checked at the transition
entry point.
Please rack your bike against the matching race number indicated on the racks. Set up your race gear
in the area provided next to your bike.
Once transition is set up, bags can be left securely in the bowling hall/registration.
Do not leave any bags or boxes in the transition area.
Movement in, through and out of transition will be clearly signposted.
SWIM INSTRUCTIONS





There will be an opportunity for 2 warm up lengths
There are 5 lanes - lane 1 is closest to the window. Lane 5 is closest to the changing rooms.
Once warm up is complete assemble in your designated swim order according to cap colour
Swimmers will be instructed to set off at 5 second intervals
On completing the swim, exit through doors in top corner, adjacent to the shallow end and
holding pool.
 Remove cap and place in container on exit
Wave 1
Please be changed and ready to swim prior to briefing.
Once race briefing has finished go to poolside for pre staging.
Be at poolside for 08.50.
Wave 2
Once Wave 1 has started please make your way immediately to the holding pool at the top end of
the swimming pool adjacent to the shallow end. This should be accessed through the changing area
and down the pool access ramp.
Wave 3
Once Wave 2 has started please make your way immediately to the holding pool at the top end of
the swimming pool adjacent to the shallow end. This should be accessed through the changing area
and down the pool access ramp.
Wave 4
Once Wave 3 has started please make your way immediately to the holding pool at the top end of
the swimming pool adjacent to the shallow end. This should be accessed through the changing area
and down the pool access ramp.

BIKE 21.6K
Cycle helmets are compulsory and must be worn for the cycle and must be on your head and
fastened before you un-rack your bike.
Please ensure that you are familiar with the route and pay careful attention to the Highway Code.
Failure to do so could lead to your disqualification or even place the future of the event in jeopardy.
The route will be well signed and marshalled. Maps of the cycle course and a route profile are
available at http://www.tweedtriathlonclub.co.uk/borders-and-bridges/. The course is undulating.
Drafting (taking pace from another rider) is not permitted. See below diagrams which explain the
drafting zone.
On leaving transition, do not mount your bike until past the mount line, which will be clearly
marked. On returning to transition, you must dismount before the mount line.
It is crucial that your helmet is not removed until your bike is back in transition and racked.
RUN 5.4K
The run route is located at http://www.tweedtriathlonclub.co.uk/borders-and-bridges/.
The run route will be clearly signposted and well marshalled.
There are 3 crossing zones to ensure safe transition across roads at various points of the route which
will be clearly marked and marshalled.
Crossing zone 1 – Northumberland Road
Crossing zone 2 – Dock Road
Crossing zone 3 – Northumberland Road (on return)
Please take extra care when crossing; always ensure it is safe to cross before doing so. It is the
competitor’s responsibility to ensure they cross these roads safely.
RULES
The race will be run according to British Triathlon rules. These can be found at:

POST RACE
Shower and changing facilities are available in the Swan Centre which will be open to the public at
this point. Please show due consideration towards centre users.
Transition will be closed to race finishers until after the last person has completed the bike course
and started their run.
AWARDS
The awards will be presented in the registration hall some time after 12.00 depending on the last
finisher.
